You know who I blame for the whole issue? Microsoft Word. Their grammar editor will suggest the apostrophe where it doesn’t belong, and when it’s added inappropriately, it doesn’t correct it. What annoys me most is when you see it in an ad for a business. I got a pizza place menu one day and it was littered with “pizza’s” and “donair’s”.
They fixed the grammar issue it in the ’07 MS Office software, but a lot of people are still running ’03, where the problem is.
whats that you say, use whos whats?were trying to learn how to road, and finds it a mite tring, dont ya knows whats i meant.
I judge people who have bad grammar (written and/or spoken).

I learned all the grammar I ever needed in school playing Mad Libs. Or most of what I needed anyway.
Yes, we prefer to take you seriously by seeing you are, in fact, literate but, if you’re not our image of perfection, your bitch still flies complete with spelling mistakes, text language and grammarian faux pas. OP, loosen your tie a little (belt, pony tail, whatever) and lighten up. You’ll be a much happier person when you stop trying to control things that don’t even matter.

if run on sentence’s were a good thing i’d be a fucking genius because if there’s one thing this cat can do is go on and on and on in a meandering semi-cohesive semi-sensible train of thought whilst ignoring any serious attempts at proper grammar but i will try to keep this brief and not rivert back to my school day habits now the i’m all growed up 🙂

On CTV news today they had some story on honour killings and it said, Canada reviews it’s stance, or something like that
It was up for minutes and made me cringe the whole time.
Also, they never once said the word muslim or islam, as if all communities do honour killings.
Hey Yorkee, it’s not only muslims who commit ‘honor’ killings. Gang and mafia members do it too. But if you’re so sure it’s muslims who are responsible, why do you need it spelled out for you??

Z – thats a different kind of honor killing. Muslims do it because they are terrified at how others would look at their family is they let it slide.
There’s a big difference between a religion and a gang. One believes it’s committing a legal and necessary act, the other knows full well it’s committing an illegal act as part of their other illegal activities.
If a muslim is offended by people talking about it then perhaps he/she should get together with other muslims and get their community to speak out against honour killings. But like in other issues involving their community, a few will talk about it but nothing really gets done.
It’s a small group of Muslims who commit “honour killings” and the act itself is not simply limited to Muslims or Arabs or brown people. It’s practiced in cultures in Asia, Africa and has been done in Europe.
Martym made the biggest point about Muslims and Islam; they and their religion are fair game in the media and the West stops at nothing to continue the demonization of the religion and the people who choose to practice it. And about the media, we’ll only read about honour killings from certain regions of the world; those regions that aren’t our “allies” or our trade partners or ones we depend on for foreign goods. Look at Saudi and the United States.
Go to the CBC homepage and read some of the comments there regarding Jews, Muslims, Arabs and anybody in the Middle East or Asia. It’s some of the most ignorant, uneducated, hateful, racist, phobic and baseless crap you’ll read. Simply, anything about Arabs or Muslims is bad and everything else is good. It’s okay for a Canadian military to kill an Afghanistani but if the reverse happens it’s a completely different thing. The tones regarding either side remain the same; “them” bad, “us” good.

I can’t even believe they’re going to waste taxpayers money and make an “Honour killing” law. We already have a law for this – First Degree Murder and even Second Degree Murder. I can’t see the punishment being any more than what’s already on the books.
I think they have a plan to publish a book titled “1000 ways to waste taxpayers’ money” sometime soon. Actually, they might go ahead with “wasting taxpayers’ money for dummies” instead.

PG – I see no harm in clarifying the law to make sure someone can’t walk into court and say that the crown is trying to interfere with their religious or cultural practices. It’s bound to happen sooner or later and we’d be bitching and wondering why the changes weren’t made earlier, especially if someone managed to appeal and win on that basis.
I know what honor killings are, voice of reason. Even though we all know who the media was referring to in their non-mention, I was just making a sort of playful point to the OP that since it wasn’t mentioned who was responsible, it might not of been who he or she thought it was.
Blame the lawyers for twisting the law in every which way they want just so they win and make money.
While even though the mdia didn’t mention who it was being investigated, it could have been that they may just assume everyone would know who it was regardless, because they have primed the people of this continent to expect this kind of thing from a certain group…even though as NGF said, it is a very small minority of this group and honor killings are NOT exclusive to just them.
Then again, the media is not so good when it comes to discretion…so if it were the people the OP is so sure it was, i’m surprised the media didn’t jump all over it. Which makes me wonder if it really is who the ignorant OP seemingly wants it to be!

Are you REALLY attributing peace and equality on that institution? So I take it you’ve never been away from North America? I’ll defend Muslims till I’m blue in the face, but when it comes to Sharia law, and the imposition of it on our common law, I find it reprehensible. We maintain a series of common laws, free from religious involvement (for a vast majority of the time), and thanks to it, it’s a fair system. When we start imposing things like Christian laws, and Muslim Sharia laws, we start having a theocratic state, and I’m sure that’s the last thing most of us want.
if you go toany country,you are sposed to opbey the laws of said country. if in this country, you go and bump someone off and claim honor killing, then i too should have the fucking right to kill your ass too then, for said killing. if you want to bring your customs to this land, be prepared to get a fucking big surprise. and if the courts let anyone, and i mean anyone, get away with this shit, then they had just better close the fucking court and let survival of the fittest rule instead. and i will gaurentee you right now, i’ll be one of the very fucking last to go down.
