Dear Ex-Employer;
When you promise someone full time hours, and then consistently give them 25 hours per week, don’t be so surprised when they quit without notice when an opportunity to actually pay their rent presents itself. Your sob story about how you’re going to cover my shifts rings hollow when I know that most of my (former) co-workers are crying for more hours. I guess you have your reasons for hiring more part timers rather than giving the people who want it full time work. Maybe just try being honest about what you’re offering. —Sorry Not Sorry

Fuck the two week notice. Employers don’t give it to employees before a layoff. Why should we give it to them? If you make more than $25 an hour I suppose it would be a good thing to do. OP, let the Fucker whine all he/she wants. You gotta look out for you.
I would take great pleasure telling them this to their face instead of writing a bitch. If you did both, the bitch should have included the place.
Lol, 25 hours a week and they expect notice? They’d be lucky I even bothered to tell them I quit!
The employer doesn’t care. Minimum wage workers are cockroaches to them. One quits and there’s a thousand more ready to take their place.
A sad ever ongoing litany in the food service trades, and many others that are mostly minimum wage positions. There are some good employers out there but often eclipsed by the many rats who often own these places and treat their employees like dirt.
As in any workplace, it all starts at the top. A good boss makes for a good workplace. A bad boss…
Personally, I prefer to frequent restaurants and coffee shops where the staff seem reasonably contented. You can usually tell that it is a decent place to work by the body language of the staff, the levels of staff turnover, and if the staff seem to take an interest in the success of the business or talk about the owner in a complimentary way.
Did I ask for fries with that?
As our old friend montrealman would have said, “You should have stayed in school!” Seriously, if you want a shot at job satisfaction and want to be treated with respect your best bet is to have skills employers want and respect. It’s never too late to go back to school. Good luck!
MAXIMUS, sometimes it is too late to go back to school. Life happens, different variables for different people. How can you tell someone to go back to school without knowing the full situation? OP is obviously trying to, and succeeding at improving her/his lot in life, what with getting the new job and all. OP is merely expressing his/her feelings regarding his/her whiny shit of a former boss. Next time read the bitch twice before commenting. I’d of thought school would of taught you that.
Willie,
The OB didn’t mention kids or major commitments. I also suspect they are young because they are still moving around trying to find a good place to work and better hours. I was merely offering encouragement to them to think about continuing or returning to school to pick up a trade or certification of some kind. They could continue to work part time while they do that. Sometimes that’s all people need is a simple word of encouragement.
Businesses keep hiring PT staff so they don’t have to deal with vacations, insurance and benefits. PT employees can be fired pretty much any time the employer needs to downsize/save money. Don’t believe an employer if they hire you at PT but promise FT hours, it won’t happen.
