I completely agree OP. It’s hard to fathom why someone who caused this standoff, resulting in evacuation of 40+ residents, and the use of police resources is allowed to go on as if nothing happened. The police are still looking into whether charges can be laid. They will hopefully find something.

If you don’t commit crimes, you generally don’t get charged. Having pussy paranoid neighbors is not a crime. Having police over-react is not a crime. Being asleep/passed out in your own home is not a crime. Having a legally registered legally stored firearm in your house is not a crime. Alcohol is not prohibited in Canada. Media creating sensationalist headlines does not create a crime.
Thankfully the RCMP remained calm here. I wonder what the headlines would look like if they raided/killed the fellow? That would have been the crime.
