This is to the stupid bitch at the 7:30pm showing of “There Will Be Blood” at Park Lane on Tuesday night: do you have some sort of mental disability which caused you to literally talk non stop through a 2 1/2 hour movie? Because maybe if you had tourette’s, aspergers, or a mild form of autism it would be understandable … but I have a feeling it was more just because you are an ignorant bitch. My mom asked you politely to be quiet and you smiled at her like you were 5. Shut the fuck up and show respect for others in a public place. I didn’t pay $10 to hear your mindless fucking commentary. GROW UP.

Funny… I saw “There will be Blood” in Toronto and a fucking guy did the exact same thing- running commentary, stupid jokes at quiet scenes. People were getting really pissed but only one person around him said anything which led us to think maybe he was mentally ill or drunk (no offense to mentally ill or drunk people). He sounded like just a self-important asshole to me but I guess you never know. I saw Juno and some chick behind me had the most obnoxious laugh which was made worse by her leaning over into my ear and cackling. It was stadium seating, I was in front. I turned around eventually and asked her to stop cackling in my ear. She tonned it down but seriously, what a fucking attention-seeking bitch. Same with the guy… do these people seriously think they’re so great that 200 people watching a movie want to hear their idiotic banter? I hate paying for movies because I always end up sitting next to one of these assholes. Its like a curse!
I always wait to see theatre movies for these same reasons. I try to go early for a weekend show or catch an early evening movie through the week when there are way fewer people there. So far it has been working out for me. Only 2 annoying people out of the last 20 movies or so that I have seen. I find a LOT of people sit and text message in the theatres now too…which I find really distracting. I also can’t figure out why you would go to a movie and look at your phone all night….why pay 10 bucks for that experience?
That’s a damn good track record… every movie I see I end up next to these people. Even the ones who aren’t chatty but have a bag of skittles they need to rummage through every 2 minutes, I end up next to. I’m like a magnet for noisy people :-(I’ll try your approach Miles; I hope it works!
I know some will attack me for this but…when shit like that happens and a polite request to be quiet is either rebuffed or ignored, get up and go to the manager and demand that either the offender be kicked out or that you get a refund or a 2nd viewing. Most often what they will do is let you watch the movie again at a better time.
I also use Mile’s approach and it works most of the time. I do agree though, why pay $10 to sit and talk. I once went to see 300 3 weeks after it was out, in IMAX. Some idiot sitting 2 seats from decided to keep his phone ringer loud and start talking on it for 15 mins. I swear if it wasn’t for my friend, i wouldn’t have been able to contain myself. I probably would have knocked the phone out of his hand.
