Protesters – war cannot be the answer, but dismantling our armed forces won’t prevent war, it’ll cause war. Maybe not here (until somone decides to take our water), but somewhere.
If we wont stand up for the weak who will?
Good thing you were not in charge when Hitler invaded Europe. Who would have stopped him if not Canada, Britain, Russia and the United States? Support our troops, past and present, and
honor their sacrifice.
Protest war if you want, but dismantle the military? are you insane, we’d end up like Tibet, and we all know you want us to do something about that too… —True north strong and free

Pacifists have never once stopped a Western democracy from either going to war or being attacked. They have, however, frequently insured that when the unthinkable becomes the inevitable , the first soldiers to be deployed are equipped with obsolescent weaponry, have inadequate training, insufficient resources and are frequently stuck in untenable situations. They are the ones who get to pay the price for the so-called ideals of pacifists. Pin your white poppies on that.
Sure let’s keep the troops over there….apparently funeral homes support it.
When was the last time Canada started a war? We are a member of the United Nations and have to do our part. Protest war all you want, it won’t do you any good, but it will kill the afternoon. So break out the bongos, bell bottom trousers and Lennon glasses and let the ” love in ” begin.
I’ve always said if you’re being attacked, who do you want to protect you, soldiers and cops, or Hare Krishnas and the Dalai Lama?
Ivan, you’re right when you state we always start out inadequately equipped. The typical attititude is we’re not at war so why spend money on defence. Then when we are people want “competition” for materials and waste more time and lives. To me “competition” is just another word for cheap.
o.p., i am not against a war, if needed, but so far, the u.s. of assholes, have started many, and cried for our and other countries to help. maybe they should be like the playground, and best takes it all, one on one. if the u.s. wants a war, let them fight it themselves, without getting innocent people involved, and putting their country at risk of an attack. if you come after me, i will take you out by myself, i don’t involve my big brother. if the u.s. wants osama, why aren’t they acctuaaly looking for him too. i have not heard of all that many u.s. personel getting killed over there, very few indeed. but if the cause is just, then bring it on, not like the shit since bush planned and carried out his attacks.
Yes Tim – from the Ross rifle of WW-1 to the Iltis in Afghanistan. Jean Poutine wasn’t the first politician to feel that our soldiers “do not need Cadillac” and he certainly won’t be the last.
Ever notice how protesters write “CHINA OUT OF TIBET” in Sharpie on everything? Did they ever check to see where that permanent marker was made? So they hate China, but they support China, hmmmm…
I had to look up this one on Google. It says Sharpies are made in Illinois. 😀
Who says they used the brand name stuff? Come on, these are the same idiots who want China out of Toronto.
I was just bugging 🙂 No offence intended.
I liked the peace protester dressed in all black with his face covered.
The only piece some of them are after is the blonde uni gal with flowers in her hair and a cute bum.
There were two protests last weekend.
One was directed at the folks bunkered down in the Lord Nelson discussing international security and things of that nature. Among the invited guests were a couple of yet-to-be indicted war criminals. Various topics were discussed but the public wasn’t given an agenda. The Halifax Peace Coalition was among the small group of protesters who voiced their objections to having these kinds of small “invitation only” meetings taking place where issues which impact all global citizens are discussed behind closed doors. The police kept a watchful eye on the protesters just in case some were tempted to throw an egg or try to perform a citizen’s arrest of a yet-to-be indicted war criminal.
The other protest was national. Groups of protesters gathered in locations from coast to coast to protest the government’s shameful treatment of yet another special interest group. This time it’s the veterans. They continue to get fucked up the ass by the same government which asks them to put their lives on the line. Currently, that would be the Conservative government of Stephen Harper. No word on whether the police kept a watchful eye on the protesting veterans. I’m sure their message wasn’t heard because, as I’ve been told many times, protests are nonsense and never make any difference.
Now that the Chen case has set precedent, the spectacle of citizen’s arrests at the German Marshall Conference would have made for some highly compelling “guerilla theatre”. Some Justin Timbalake lookalike from the Student Coalition Against Battle could have tried to give Condi Rice a Superbowlesque wardrobe malfunction. And watching some unwashed Chomsky-ite try to lay hands on Ehud Barak would have been pants-pissingly uproarious. As a former Sayeret Matkal commando he’d make the famous “Chawinigan ‘andchake” look like a caress from a skeevy old Rouyn-Noranda fille de joie.
Couldn’t have said it better OP. Also: Can’t wait for the new Cyclones to get here. Saw them towing it up and down around Shearwater last winter for sea trials 🙂 The new helicopters are well-deserved by our Sea King pilots and maintenance crews and all the rest!
That’s assuming that Iggy lets us keep them >; ).
After all, we had Chinooks until the early 90’s when some bright spark in the mulroney cabinet sold them to the Dutch; demonstrating that it’s not just the liberals who are stupider than stegosaurus shit on the subject of National Defence
make love not war 🙂
yes martym, i second that a million %. let’s all make love, and to hell with the killing for a few days. it might actually catch on somehow.
frankly I’m shocked at your endorsement LS ; very out of character 🙂
