Way to go, you aces of snow removal. It has been one snowfall and you have already managed to fuck it up. Where is the salt? Where is the actual snow removal? All I see are sidewalks with snow pushed down into the pavement so that it is slippery. You are again relying on foot traffic and weather to melt the snow for you, but that doesn’t work in places where people aren’t constantly walking around. Nothing is cleared properly even though there has been plenty of time to go back and re-do the areas that were swiped over in the initial snowfall. We are getting more snow today that will just get shoved down onto the rest of it—more terrifying sidewalks in the making. It has been one fucking day, please don’t drop the ball this soon. I can’t handle another winter like the last one. It snows every year here—every fucking year. I don’t understand how it still manages to catch the city off guard. —snowhater

What I HATE is, with the very first snow fall, the contractors have immediately limited the sightline distances for pretty much every intersection approach.
Way to go for Public Safety. not only does a car need to block the pedestrian crossing area but the driver needs to creep out INTO the intersection to get a clear view of oncoming traffic.
I would love to see these jabronies charged for creating unsafe conditions for the GenPop.
I understand that intersections have historically been piled with snow, effectively limiting the sightline distances, forever and a day. But with private contractors now in the pot, I think we should be insisting on a better system of snow clearing.
I would have agreed with you the day after the first snow fall. But from what I’ve seen they’ve done a good job getting things cleaned up after that. Haven’t walked dt too much though, seems like the sidewalks are OK though.
Bike lanes are not cleared properly. They are shrunken by the snow banks. Sometimes the are snow-covered or blocks of snow mar safe passage. Motorists who already hate you for getting to work for free, purposely hinder your way, forcing you into already unsafe circumstances. And if I hadn’t cleared my sidewalks, they’d be ice covered.
It all comes down to dollars and cents, don’t you people know anything/
The sidewalks are fine so far, by and large.
It’s true that bike lanes aren’t well plowed at all, though this seems to be a constant problem in all Canadian cities (except Montreal, for some reason).
The reality is, the city doesn’t plow for citizens to drive around as they please.
They plow roads so that a fire truck can put out a single house fire before it turns into a neighbourhood fire. They plow so that an ambulance can get to someone’s home and perform CPR on the out of shape fat ass that would rather the city deal with their sidewalk so he can enjoy his salty snacks in front of the TV. They plow so that the cops can get to a crime scene. And they plow so buses can make it up hills with all-season tires.
We benefit from plowing only because we have emergency services that need it done.
The bike lanes will be back in May sometime.
Mercy, faith and begorrah! I’d rather endure a brutal Halifax winter over a Roman Catholic Irish Nun Retreat any day! For one thing, no one’s swatting you with a rosary or pulling you by the ear with a crucifix.
Fuck you and your stupid bike lanes. ….get a skidoo.
