When will we lower our pretentious noses enough to look around and notice that sustainable living DOES NOT equal overpriced, exclusive bullshit clothing/food/insert-daily-need-here. These if-you-didn’t-instagram-your-avocado-pudding-did-you-really-eat-avocado-pudding assholes are shining examples of what self-serving privilege and general ignorance looks like. Look at these places in the context of the communities they’ve sat themselves in – totally oblivious to the poverty, racial segregation and addiction all around them. But hey – the rent is cheap. Say it with me, “gentrification”. So many BC imports turned Nova Scotia yogis whoring I Love Local. Now – I don’t actually care where you’re from. But before you sit your pretentious boutique two blocks away from a starving community fraught with all of the social issues that NS loves to ignore, do your fucking research. Look no further than their websites to see a half-online store/half-READ ABOUT OUR OWNER/OUR STORY/LOOK AT ME ME ME I’M SUCH A GREAT PERSON. It’s repulsive. The people who run these places are condescending as hell. They’re extremely judgemental and pretentious. They’re wolves in sheep’s clothing. They ARE the problem. You wan’t to make conscious, sustainable living the norm? You ACTUALLY care? Try making it at all accessible. More like “Oxymoron of the Moment”.
