we did our best for the owner and the cat but he’s chances appeared bleak as they left for the vet’s office.
For the love of God people, PLEASE keep your cats indoors. I don’t condone the action of the driver in the post, not for a minute but at the same time…free-roaming domestic animal + busy rush-hour city street…well, you do the math. What did you expect was going to happen? I have 2 cats of my own (and a dog) and they are NEVER allowed to roam free…EVER. You know why? Because I know that they will eventually end up getting hosed off of somebody’s set of P215 R/17’s. To expect anything less is being completely naive! Seriously! You may think your pet is “street-smart”…they’re not. They’re a cat ffs. They’re going to dart out in traffic, chase things, eat something they’re not supposed to, etc. Not to mention the myriad other dangers and diseases that exist out there. I do feel bad for you and your cat for what happened to him/her but, my sympathy only goes so far. Be responsible. Keep them inside where it’s safer. If you insist on taking outside, keep them on a leash or put them in an enclosure of some sort with a roof. (They ARE cats afterall) It’s not cruel. You’re actually helping to keep them alive longer.

just be fucking thankful it wasn’t a child he hit o.p., people are in too fucking much of a hurry. my two cats are insiders, they don’t ever go out. they both hate the sound of a car or truck, and run away at first hearing of one.
I’ve witnessed it too. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and completely traumatizing! So sorry for all!!!

My kitteh loves our sun porch and I leave the windows and screen door open for him as much as possible… and he has a harness and leash, we go outside to explore together sometimes. But beyond that, he’s a happy healthy, 10 yr (in Aug!) old cat. And I want to keep him that way for at least 10 more years.

Life expectancy of outside cats is a lot lower than indoors, but on an infinite timeline everybody dies.
Sorry for your loss, but keep the next one inside.
You let your pet outside unattended and free to roam, expect things like this to happen. Or a coyote eats it. Or a homeless person.
