I always thought that should I ever have a problem, you were only a call away. Today I learned the hard way that this is, sadly, not the case.

As I left my house this morning, I was confronted by a brown medium- sized pitbull running unleashed down the street. His owner then appeared, out of breath, at the top of the hill. He was chasing his dog, leash in hand. His dig had gotten out of the house accidentally and was now on the loose. Animal control was called, and upon their arrival one officer walked around the park close to my house, while the other stayed in the truck. When asked if they had caught the dog, he said they had not, but they had looked. He also informed me that there was another dog, a large-medium size breed, black, running around the north end. About two hours later, still running errands, I came across this second dog, on Wyse Road. Animal control was called again. The dog then ran across Wyse Road, just getting across the street before being hit by a black truck. The owner of the black truck then got out, in the pouring rain, and tried to coax the dog into his car to save it from being hit. The dog became spooked and ran again.

Animal control was called again, to update them as to where the dog was now. They had already forgotten about the dog and needed his description again, and his new location. In the time that we sat and waited (with the two other vehicles that had tried to help), we didn’t see one Animal Control truck, and we had seen two parked about five minutes away.

It really burns me that someone cared enough about their dog to call and report it missing, and that three complete strangers in the pouring rain made more of an effort to help this poor dog than the people who are trained and paid to do it. NEWS FLASH: this is Nova Scotia, it rains, get used to it. Also, maybe you didn’t want to work on a Sunday… this is your JOB. People`s children play outside, people walk their dogs outside. When you get a call, get on it! I am very unimpressed with what I`ve seen today, and only hope that those dogs both made it home safely, no thanks to your department.

PS: To the man and woman in the black truck who pulled off the road and tried to get him and to the woman in the red car who had also been following him before we saw him: THANK YOU. This city, and apparently the Animal Control department, needs more people like you! —Dog Chaser

  1. Fuck, there are so many things wrong with you. First of all, I don’t think they ‘forgot’ about the dog…I’m sure there is more than one person working at the office there and it’s probably protocol for them to get the description of each animal a person is calling in about, and since you say they were looking for this dog before, it’s even more important for them to verify that it is the same dog. And the two animal control trucks that were parked 5 mins away, I think they were probably doing something other than sitting their trucks, staring at their phones. They were probably on another incident and not even in their trucks.
So stop acting like you know everything because you have no idea how anything works!!

  2. Here is another perfect reason to allow more Vietnamese, Laotian & Korean refugee’s come to Nova Scotia.
Their custom of eating dog meat would probably be a big help in eliminating this problem. We allow them to eat any of these animals at large they can catch.
We save taxpayer funded salaries for these so called workers (who it doesn’t sound like they actually accomplish much) we rid the neighborhood(s) of problem animals, which in many cases may be because of the owners actions…but if the animals dead, that particular problem is solved. Yep saving money & putting protein in the immigrants diet, sounds like a win, win solution to me .

  3. unfortunately animal control doesn’t have any teeth or claws and very few people

  4. Nope, I just think logically and don’t assume the worst in people :)! And I guess it helps that I work in an office and had to call the non-emergency police not too long ago…I know it’s not the same as animal control but I guess you could say I was calling about a horrible, beastly animal! But the cop that showed up to talk to me knew nothing about my situation so I don’t know how the communcation system works, but I just assume the officers aren’t given much info to go on before they get somewhere.

  5. i said it before, some people should have to have an aptiude test, to see if they know how to care for fucking animals. if this dog/s got hit and killed, then the idiot owners would get on here and bitch and whine about the drivers. see last weeks comments on the 6 year anniversary of her dog getting hit, and almost killed. people, control your fucking dog/s, or don’t bother getting them. what if these mutts had bitten, or god fucking forbid, killed a small child. if the kid was mine, you would suffer the 1,000 tests of hell.

  6. Any pitbull running loose should be shot dead on sight.
Any pitbull owner chasing a loose pitbull should have to go down on smelly schlong in the Yucky Bitch post.
Any leftover pubes should be made into a tea cosy.

  7. By “confronted” by a pitbull running down the street do you mean you “saw” a pitbull running down the street?

Face it, if this was a golden retriever running at large this bitch would probably not exist.

Boy, some people do love their dramatic lives!

  8. You’re right lovinglife, because the FACT is for the most part, a golden retriever is not likely to become hostile as a pitbull. I wish these supposed dog lovers would wake up and see that pitbulls, and other breeds like it, are a mistake to own. They should be outlawed. Now, I’ll sit back and wait for the comments to roll in saying, “I own a pitbull, and it’s the most loving animal ever blah blah”

  9. well i dont own a pitbull nor do i know anyone who does, but i prefer a fact based argument rather than an emotional based one. You can type fact in all caps till your heart is content but that doesnt make it so.

and dont put words into the ops mouth, at no point during this bitch did they say the ahem…”pitbull ” was hostile. Just loose.

Breed specific bans are based on emotion and knee jerk reaction by politicians looking for a quick vote, and not facts.

  10. and for the pitbull owners who are about to jump in and defend the breed, don’t bother. That debate has and will rage on for a long time, with both sides making valid points on occasion, but mostly just emotional rhetoric and anecdotal evidence. It has been my experince in the pitbull debate that NEITHER side is interested in letting facts get in teh way of a good argument.

This bitch and my comments about it were more about the fact the OP is getting in a tizzy over nothing at all.

Like I said in my previous post, and will say again now, people do love their drama.
