Yay environment! Since the strike has commenced, this city has become eco friendly! Wow! This is so great. Those buses produce so much pollution that can make humans and animals sick. Pollution also kills nature, destroys trees, harms our air and contributes significantly to global warming. There is so much beauty around us! Let’s take a walk and explore. Thanks for walking everyone! You are helping the environment more and more each minute! —Your Friendly Neighbourhood Eco Activist

  1. Ya know…when you do something over and over, and over…it kinda takes away the shock value a little. You aren’t impressing anyone with your snarky little comments, you insecure little moron, so just shut the fuck up already.

  2. Hmm. I’m not usually one to down-talk a love-post, but I had to put in my two (or in this case, three) cents.

    1) Mass transit is necessary for any city to be environmentally friendly.
    2) While many transit users don’t own cars, there has definitely been an increase in traffic congestion since the strike began (idling cars are not a treat for the environment either).
    3) Finally, metro transit is an essential service to many, and even though Halifax is relatively small, NO ONE wants to be hoofing it around the peninsula while suffering from this monsterous cold/flu bug going around (speaking from experience).

I am an environmentalist , but I have to disagree with anyone who says this strike is a good thing. Metro transit is a necessary evil.

  3. I call myself an environmentalist but thinking that because the buses aren’t running is a good thing for our environment is ass-backwards. There are so many more cars on the road right now because many people who actually own them, still take the bus. Those who work in downtown Halifax usually can’t find or afford a place to park, therefore the bus is the best option. Now that’s not an option at all and everyone has to drive again. More cars on the road equal more gas emissions. Yes, more people are walking but most of us are doing it because we don’t have cars at all.

  4. The OB is a perfect example why people dislike enviromentalists (ever notice the word mental in that word), because most times they spout off idiot statements like this and completely ruin any standing for their cause. Even non-greenies understand that with no buses on the roads, there are more vehicles and taxis running, ergo more pollution. Non-greenies also understand the need for filters, etc. What non-greenies hate is the complete doom and gloom the other side spouts off without facts or facts twisted to their favour. They want to doom pipelines even though piplines are the safest way to move huge amounts of petroleum products or anything that is liquid.
