Thanks to the lunatic who almost ran her SUV over me this afternoon while I was legitimately crossing Summer Street via College. I hope your illegal cell phone conversation was very important, because you almost killed me on account of it. Perhaps someday the rest of the city will be so fortunate as to have you become vapourized by a self-absorbed twat driving brainlessly through intersections.

FYI: She was given an enormous amount of time to slow down and stop at the intersection. This was no last second dash through traffic

  1. THE worst spot in the entire city for this is the crosswalk on Barrington St at the bus stops by Barrington Place Shops and Scotia Square. It amazes me everyday that someone is not killed there.

  2. BRoc, I agree that crossing is terrible. Moreover to the OP’s point, it’s happened to me, however, you’ve gotta keep your head on a swivel, because drivers will always be ignorant of pedestrians (the reverse is also true at times) regardless if you’re in a crosswalk or not.

  3. …and of course, calling the cops and reporting her license plate number never occurred to you. You know cell phone companies keep record of call times. Not hard to match your near rundown time to her talk time. Next time, just throw something at her car and see if that gets her attention. Hopefully she’d stop, you then call the cops, and when asked why you threw you bag, you simply say “it flew when i jumped out of the way.”

  4. I wouldn’t recommend what doing what Andy said. Can’t you can be fined for throwing shit at cars? You can’t expect no one to see you throw it at a busy intersection.

I can’t drive, but I can walk; and as a pedestrian I agree BRoc. That intersection stresses me out. I get paranoid and jump at small noises after crossing it. I’m one of those people who won’t walk when the hand is blinking no matter how empty the street is. I won’t start walking until I’m absolutely sure that the cars are slowing down to stop for me. This tends to annoy some drivers…

  5. BRoc, that intersection is bad…but as a driver, I have to say that if the lights are flashing for a crossing, often there will be no one in sight. If they are not flashing, often there will be people crossing…again, head on a swivel deal. Pedestrians HAVE to be mindful of traffic too!!

  6. For sure, Bigger Unit, but I have seen countless number of times the crosswalk lights flashing, a pedestrian apprehensively walking through and cars whizzing by in the far lanes. No excuse for that.

  7. I am with Andy. Carry a soft peach, or two, and heave it at the vehicle as it goes by. Making sure that there is no risk of a serious accident of course.
Peaches now available in large quantities at your local grocery store.
