I would take an entire summer of bad pop concerts over the incessant drum banging by those damn hippies in the commons. Every time I go there it is the same thing. Even drives my dog crazy. Get a damn job/education/bar of soap. —Pow Wow Police

they don’t bug me specifically…
but I’m going to back you 100% OP
STOP THE INSANITY….
get that drum beating orgy outta there.
unless you have someone who plays the jug simultaneously…
then it’s ok.
Console yourself my friend that they are far too baked to navigate that impervious kelp forest of Canada Council grant applications or you would find yourself in the postion of helping to subsidize it, to a far greater extent than simple welfare and free pennicillin.
Taser them.
Don’t be so uppity. I have an education and a job and take a shower every day AND love to drum. Y’all is just jealous that you’re not banging on a drum too. Try it before you knock it!
“That’s what she said”
Okay, it’s official – I’m watching far too much of “The Office”
What’s orange and red and looks good on hippies?
FIRE!!!!!
Hey Col Ivan – are you trying to say that the Arts are more funded than healthcare and welfare? Because the Canada Council operates on 150 – 180 million, for the entire country. That’s approximately the same as the health care budget….for Newfoundland. So…I suggest educating yourself before you make disparaging statements about the measly amount of money allocated to funding the arts in this country.
I personally find it annoying when the Commons is full of baseball games. I’ve been hit by one of those suckers as I was walking to work. I still think they have the right to use it, I just avoid them. Try it.
No. I’m saying that funding self-indulgent tripe is a fuck of a lot more galling to the average taxpayer than welfare and medicare.
I for one am totally grooving on the thought of our new CF-35 fighters. See you at the Air Show >; )
speaking of the commons, the olde skating pond should be good to go on dec 15
Maybe in the summer we can have outdoor roller derby. Giggity.
i was hoping to attend the pfl event, but i gots me some bidness to take care of
500 Quaatlus on the Earth Mod. >; )
Right. Because all art is self-indulgent tripe, which has no actual value to society.
It’s statements like yours that contribute to the appalling lack of appreciation for the arts that plagues our society.
The fact that some jerk complains about a free community drum circle where money is not an issue whatsoever (which is in no way supported by the tax payers dollars), and that incites an ignorant comment about arts funding – something which makes up a pitifully small portion of overall government spending – is frankly gross.
Saying funding art is more galling than funding welfare and medicine is like saying its harder to pay for parking than it is to buy a car.
Art is an essential part of society. End of story. If you don’t agree, fine, but don’t compain about the measly amount of your precious tax dollars that go to supporting it. We all support things with our taxes that we don’t agree with or participate in. That’s the nature of living in a society. Suck it up, or go off the grid. Or better yet, find out about all the amazing arts programs that are out there, operating on tiny budgets that continue to decrease, and doing incredible things.
I’d like to see our defense budget cut. We don’t have an independent foreign policy anyway. As we are told frequently by our ‘leaders’ in Ottawa, the reality of our situation is this: we can’t make any moves without consulting the Americans, and that goes for economic, environmental and military policies.
We shouldn’t be wasting our defense budget on new fighter aircraft. We should be investing in IED technology for the day when we get ‘liberated’ from our oil, gas, fresh water and lebensraum by our erstwhile ‘friends’ to the south.
Canada’s defence budget is disgustingly huge and takes priority over health care and environment. All those wasted tax dollars so some arms companies can get richer and Canadians can be blindly afraid of Muslims and foreign people of coloured skin.
You mean, like the last 2 ceremonial Commanders-In-Chief of our Armed Forces?
…and it must be said that while Adrienne Clarkson was a stone-cold arrogant crunt, Mikey Jean rocked the uniform pretty damned good. Rrrrrooowww!
she sure did admiral, especially standing next to old jug ears…a little ray of sunshine, and she speaks five languages
She made a ceremonial position pretty darned relevant. Best GG in a long time.
Sometimes even we get it right. >: )
Ivan
What’s a ‘crunt’?
A cross between a creep and a cunt
New word! (*adds to mental dictionary*) Could be dead useful.
I would rather give money to fund hippy drum circles than buy toys for our military.
On an aside note: I’m seriously thinking of changing my name to the guy they’re promoting in The Coast – Dune Lankard – it has that certain ring to it, like Dirk Diggler or Buck Naked.
Do you mean the “Toys” our military used to repair roads and bridges in Newfoundland? How about the “Toys” we used to transport aid and assitance to Haiti last winter. Maybe the “Toys” we use to locate and hopefully rescue fishermen and merchant sailors in trouble off our shores? Those the kind of toys you’re referring to there iassblastbeats?
Good one Bill/Ben/Baz. I’m seriously considering changing my name to Loon Drunkard, because I am. RAWK!
Ivan – you’re in fine fettle this morning.
There used to be a comedian in the UK (he’s dead now) and one of his characters was Cosmo Smallpiece…
Danke schoen B&B. Have you ever heard of a comedian named “Blaster Bates”? I remember seeing his LPs in the comedy section of Sams back in 79. He wore a British Rail cap and Para smock and his albums had titles like “TNT for 2” I was always curious about him. And Ivor Cutler. Max Ferguson used to play his stuff from time to time. Cracked me right up, ‘e did.
Calling random drumming art is IMO like comparing the Mona Lisa to grade primary finger painting…sure they are both painting. Personally I know which of the 2 are actually ART & while technically they both qualify, 1 is IMO definately a higher art form than the other !
While I am not adverse to drumming in music, drumming just to bang on something…might be great for the drummer, for those who have this loud obnoxious banging that goes on & on it is no different than construction noise of say a jack hammer.
Annoying is what it is & trying to hide a jack hammer behind the “art” of breaking up rock/cement just don’t cut it for me ( and several others here) anyhow.
IT ain’t art for those forced to hear it…its NOISE.
I wish people that play hand drums would realize that most people don’t want to hear them.
FYI: no more mega concerts on the commons — promotions company went under, apparently. Owes suppliers money too. Hear it on the radio this mornin’.
I hate the fact that we owe the BEPs a debt of gratitude, but , gotta give credit where it is due.
not to mention front page of the metro…. kitty
Maybe we should have gotten Fergie and her Depends to do a celebrity “Don’t Flush This” ad. She’s gotta have some community service to work off, doesn’t she? Like, for “Being a Skeeve in the First Degree”.
