I’ve been realizing lately that a lot of the good bands that play in Halifax only play 19+ shows, which is total bullshit. I’m not nineteen so my only option is to break the law to see my favourite bands play. Now, I don’t have a huge problem with that and I know it isn’t Halifax’s fault they won’t play all ages, I’m just frustrated. My fake I.D gets me places, but god damn I am tired of having to whip out the back breaking high heels to see some quality music. The majority of good bands playing at the Pop Explosion are also not AA, why can’t we just bar off the drinking section (no pun intended)?

  1. Someday you WILL be 19+ and realize why adults don’t want to go to all ages shows and see 15 year olds making out with each other all night.

  2. Trust me, this is not a new thing. I went through the same thing when I was underage, and that was quite awhile ago. And so has every other generation in the last thirty years, or more. You just have to hold tight and eventually you’ll be able to see whoever you want. It does suck, though. Music is predominately listened to by teenagers and is a major part of your lives, so not being able to see live acts really bites. But, it’s been proven that all ages clubs here don’t fare well. Years ago there was the Flamingo, but they ended up becoming a licensed bar because the customers just weren’t keeping the place afloat. As for barring off a section for the underaged, it wouldn’t work. The security involved in making sure that no one sneaks in booze and the insurance premiums would be too crazy. It’s a bar owner’s nightmare.

  3. In general the people that go to shows are up to or over the age of 30 and generaly would vather drink at a show and not party with 16 year olds. Also if there is a mosh pit a 25 year old would do some damage to a 16 year oldthats why they do 2 shows all ages and 19+

  4. OP – the reason they can’t have a roped off section for minors is because their liquor license would require them remove there alcohol supply from the premise completely before the beer cops would let them have minors on premises after 9 pm. Its a weird rule i know. Just not serving it is somehow not enough. Considering how much profit the bar make from the sale of alcohol and the massive stockpile they keep around its just not worth it for them to get ride of it for a night to go all ages for a few hours. Sucks I know, I had to wait till I was 19 to see a decent band play in this city.

  5. I find it funny someone who would complain about lack of access to good bands would then quote Soulja Boy.
