To the local musician who does the airline bashing videos on you-tube. The first one was okay… Only okay.
Now with the sequel out, you’re just milking it. Give it a rest and try something else why don’t you. IMHO if you are sofa king stupid that you put an unprotected $3500 guitar with the checked baggage, you deserved to get it broken.
Oh and BTW, I don’t see the 3rd base coach waving you in either.

Its not even an ‘ok band’, they’re just joes with day jobs and got lucky, once. I bet the only place people are hearing abot these losers is Nova Scotia, at least now, anyway.
What the fuck is your problem OP? Seriously though, have you never been on an airplane? For once someone sticks up for the little guy against a large business and you trash him for it. WTF??
I loved the vid and song. Its really funny.
“I bet the only place people are hearing abot these losers is Nova Scotia, at least now, anyway.”
You’re a fucking idiot, this is why:

“When United Airlines allegedly broke the guitar of the Canadian country and western singer Dave Carroll, he took revenge in a YouTube music video that became a huge hit this summer. The song, United Breaks Guitars, has been viewed nearly 5 million times on YouTube.”
When 5 MILLION people log onto a website to watch the same video, people are talking about it.
Pull your head out of your ass.
But he is kinda milking it now. Take the fame you got from the unfortunate guitar smashage, and then write a good song, and hope the millions still pay attention. If they do, it will be worth more than the guitar cost in the first place.
The production value isn’t too bad on those things, I wonder how many guitars he could have bought for that investment.
I saw an interview with Dave Carroll where he said everyone involved with the video donated their time, as did the production company…
Everyone involved with the production were probably so generous because they have flown United before too.
he’s the musical equivalent of the Trailer Park Boys (who?) your 15 minutes are waaaay over – time to go to CBC and join Air Farce or 22 Minutes
how is that anything like the Trailer Park Boys what so ever?
The trailer park boys are awesome. You on the other hand are jealous. What-is your music career not working out right now…
So what if he is shamelessly milking it. Halifax is practically ground zero for broke musicians. It is foolish not to ride out any wave of fame as it may never happen again.
sorry, but I don’t consider internet sources/fame as a true measure of anything. My head still stay planted in my ass, thanks.
dot.com stocks anyone? They’re printed on toilet paper!
I respect what he’s doing. Sure he’s reaping some benefits from this situation but he’s also bringing a lot of attention to a problem that has plagued consumers for a long time. He declined personal compensation and is trying to shame them into making their policies more consumer friendly. How many people would have taken the money United offered after the first video got so much attention and dropped it?
Eh? I don’t have a career in music or anything music related….
this fellow will be on SGR with the other flotsam and jetsom singing his hole out for a few buckaroos
And here’s the story.

Or you could even follow the link I posted about 4 hrs ago in this SAME thread…
The first song taking on the airline-kinda funny, justified, fine. But this one repeatedly names the particular customer service person he was dealing with-not ok. I highly doubt that Ms. Irlweg sets United’s policies. While “I was just doing my job” is not much of an excuse, it is still likely the case that, under current policies, there wasn’t anything she could do for him. What outcome is he hoping for by publicly shaming an individual, middle level employee? It just makes him seem like a jerk.
The band is called Sons of Maxwell, I’ve watched them perform once or twice and they are actually very good… I think they’ve been around for a while now and they are playing on the waterfront this weekend.
The OP is exactly correct (as is Mosley).
OP-
He’s not “milking it”. He said from the very beginning, prior to the first video coming out that he was going to write three songs about the experience. At that time, he had no way of knowing that it would get 5 million hits. So, now the second song is out, and yes, there will be a third. Highly unlikely that the successive songs will do as well. The first one was what got the story out there. He’s just doing what he said he was going to do. Had the first video not done so well, he’d still put out the other songs.
The songs aren’t great, but I like the idea behind them. It’s about time that some corporate giants who think customer service is simply a title and not an action, got some egg on their collective faces.
Now, if only someone would write a song about the “customer service”- *cough, cough*- at a certain cellphone company that rhymes with “hell’. I’d be really happy.
Actually, Dave Carroll is the only one sticking up this woman…he even made a short statement saying she was (mostly) just doing her job. However, I for one am sick of people taking jobs in “customer service” and then just acting like a rubber stamp “no”-man.
And who’s the cretin that said Sons of Maxwell weren’t pros? HAHAHA, get out much?
…also, hey OP…exactly what type of case (he was using an ATA hardshell) do you think will protect a guitar from going from freefall to “0” in a few millimeters?! The guitar wasn’t crushed, it was thrown, the forces will be the same inside as outside, minus a bit of fuzzy foam…
I bet you think you can just “jump” before the falling elevator hits the basement, don’t you there Wile E Coyote?
Back to physics 101 my friend…F=ma and you can’t push on a rope…
What shocks me is that United has not sued his ass.
Sue for what? I’m pretty sure they’re not denying that they did break his guitar. And that would certainly help the PR – to sue the guy that 5 million people are following.
bad mr frosty, you fucking troll… I’m going to go ahead and call bullshit on your claim to be a grumpy old retired musician, well not the grumpy old part, but certainly the musician part… And your little back to school and 101 this or that comments etc are getting tres annoying to say the least…
But I’m going to (for the moment) give you the benefit of the doubt, that you in fact were a performing musician at some point in your pathetic life.. Pray tell us how the guitar players in your bands packed their gear for airline travel… And how did that work out?
I’ll just wait here while you get your fat lazy ass out bed to come down here and edumucate us all once again…
Um, that would be an ATA case in a nut shell, “Floyd”…
And “tres” is spelled “trés”
vuelva a la escuela, Floyd…
