I would really like to know why local authorities do NOT enforce the law that prohibits cell use while driving! Everyday I see countless people driving while on their cells. What’s the point of passing something into law and not enforcing it? Is it going to take a death or FIVE for the HRM police department to WAKE UP?—Tired of what others are doing while driving

  1. Yeah I now! I mean, it’s not like the local authorities don’t have the man power to monitor every single car all the time! I mean, as soon as soon as something is enforced it should never ever ever happen again regardless of whether or not there are cops in the immediate area to enforce it!!!

    douchebag

  2. It’s somewhat difficult to enforce the law when no law-agents are present. I see it a lot too and it bugs me but if the police aren’t present there’s not much room for complaint.

  3. Don’t hold your breath waiting for everyone to adhere to the law. Everyone knows that drinking and driving is against the law too but lots of people still do it.

  4. I saw a perfect example of a complete moron driving the other day while I was waiting at the bus stop. These two young ladies were in the front seat of a car. The driver was holding her QWERTY phone sideways with both hands (note: no hands were on the wheel) and looking down at it (note: no eyes were on the road), while texting away and laughing. This was not just a quick glance down (which would be bad enough)…she was still moving along in traffic as she did this. The passenger beside her laughed unconcernedly. How do these people even make it out of the driveway?

  5. I know two people who got fined for this since the law passed, and a third was pulled over and given a warning. Just because you see people ignoring the law doesn’t mean it isnt being enforced.

  6. …and yet, traffic fatalities are DOWN all across North America over the last few years…BEFORE the bans were in place…how can this be?! We were promised that cell phone use causes mayhem and death on our roads!

  7. Beyond the stats, Frosty, it does make logical sense that using a phone while driving is a terrible idea. Use some common sense…

  8. there is a little unknown thing that you can buy, it isn’t here yet, but should be, and is very illegal to have, even for the cops. it’s called”cell buster”. aparrently you you aim this sucker at some cel phone, turn it on, and press a button. it is sposed to scamble the signal, and over the battery or some shit.i guess they nailed some guy about 3 years ago in the states, and hit him with a half million fine. i have been searching for one, and might be close to the guy that got his. at least, i know his name, and where he lived at. nice toy for all the idiot drivers, to get fucked up over.

  9. Get their license plate number plus the date/time and report them. The police can look at the phone records.

  10. I think it would be a good law if they banned ALL phones while driving. Holding a cell phone to my ear is not going to cause me to get in an accident any more then drinking my coffee, or smoking a cigarette BUT having my mind pre-occupied in a conversation or concentrating on something besides driving will. Right now I think the law is a joke as it stands because it doesn’t make sense to band handheld and not the rest.

  11. Its a ridiculous and unenforceable law… that is unless they decide to hire as many cops as there are drivers with cellphones…

  12. i don’t quite think that is the one i saw, zzz. it had just one tiny rod on the top, and 2 buttons on it. one i guess for send, and i guess a power on button. i thought the cops in story said they came from germany, or around there. be fucking neat to play with tho.

  13. meh, call me a skeptic until i can catch a glimpse of one.

I’ll stick to the low tech, fuck everyone in 20 foot radius instead of focusing my non-communicative rage on one certain individual.

gotta scoop one of these up. In the uk, if you get it there, they can be pretty cheap…

  14. Ultimately, it’s like any traffic law out there (speeding, seatbelts, etc). The cops can’t catch them all but if it at least deters a few of these asshats, then it’s a good thing

  15. That’s exactly what I was trying to say earlier, BRoc. How can people be caught if there are no police around?

*says that while hanging around underneath a No Loitering sign*

  16. “”Beyond the stats, Frosty, it does make logical sense that using a phone while driving is a terrible idea. Use some common sense…””

The trouble with ‘common sense’ is that often what SEEMS like it should be true IS NOT TRUE.

It only “makes sense” that the death penalty should act as a deterrent to murder, yet it’s proven it DOES NOT.

You can’t replace the “facts”, with your “gut feeling”, sorry.

  17. What causes accidents is not cel phones…it’s poor driving. The fact that some people are not able to drive properly while they talk is not MY problem, or at least should NOT be…

And the arguement about “one hand off the wheel” is fallacious…a cell can be quickly dropped in an emergency situation.

What’s next, censors that stop the car if one hand leaves the wheel to pick a nose or yank one off in traffic?

Notice how lawmakers had to scramble to say that a converstion with someone in the passenger, or back seat doesn’t COUNT!?…because those people help with the driving?!

    WTF, They DO?!

and how is that? I’ve seen people talking to someone in the back seat that twist and strain around to face them while driving for fuck’s sake…and I can’t get directions from a shipper in my truck?!

Well fuck you lawmakers…there’s a nice little loophole you forgot to close. It’s called a Cobra blue-tooth CB radio…makes all the calls I want, so blow me…

  18. While I agree talking on a phone, for many people…not ALL people, isn’t much different than talking to people in a vehicle. Trying to dial a phone or text message while driving is more distracting IMO.
But to just answer your phone, especially on a highway…seems like a really dumb law.
I think I posted here one other time, I once saw a person in morning rushhour traffic, reading a hardcover book which was on his steering wheel, & eating a breakfast type sandwich while trying to merge after going through the tolls !

I would also like to say something about backseat drivers….but I’ll start cursing & I’m trying to cut back !!

  19. some people cannot drive. period. i think it’s the signage, i see them peering trying to figure them out…and at that point they are on the wrong side of the road (my personal fav) or stopped dead trying to merge. scared shitless and crying indicates you should not operate a motor vehicle

  20. good one bro…it’s not a country road or the back a beyond. pay attention

  21. ah Cobra… there;s some quality kit ya got going on….

and I ran a red the other day, all… my bad. some of those intersections near the commons are rightly fucked…
I can get on board with the signage…
but don’t take my smooshwaffle off my lap. he’s safe there…

  22. my dog stays in the pit…he is a tall/ungainly/tard. huh, sounds like my human family^^

  23. Unfortunately, the drivers that do get distracted while driving ruin it for you. Too bad so sad.

  24. It doesn’t matter if you are on a cell phone( most common) , on a CB radio, thinking about supper WHATEVER!!! ..PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING YOUR CAR!!!!!!! DON’T EAT, READ, TALK, LIGHT A SMOKE, PICK YOUR SCABS, JERK OFF, CHANGE THE CD, DISCIPLINE YOUR KIDS, FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT, FETCH PURSE FROM BACK SEAT!!!!

ONE THING AT A TIME. IF YOU ARE DRIVING ..JUST DRIVE..NOT THAT THAT DOESN’T TAKE ALL ATTENTION ALL THE TIME.

  25. how much attention does it take to hit the caps lock button off???
you were busy eating lunch while typing again, weren’t you?

    ONE THING AT A TIME.

  26. I was in the car with my sisters friend, driving last week and he answered his cell phone. I was hoping he’d put it on a “hands free” mode but…NOPE.

So I interrupted his conversation, which I figured was fair since WE had been having a conversation when he answered his phone which pissed me off anyway. No, “Excuse me I have to take this” or “Sorry, just hold that thought” he just started talking to someone else.

I said, “Why don’t you pull over here if you’re going to keep talking” and he shushed me.

Then we approached a sidewalk, two kids (teens actually) were crossing and the light was flashing but the driver wasn’t slowing down so I yelled “Watch it!” and he swerved and slammed on the brakes.

We didn’t hit anything (luckily he kind of swerved half into a driveway rather than a parked car) but it was enough to make me afraid for people that talk on phones while driving and afraid for every other driver or pedestrian they are around.

Honestly, I think I would call the cops I was in the same situation again. I probably would have if he had tried to keep talking on his phone after almost hitting two people in a crosswalk.

and…yes I realize this guy is a twat but I really don’t think he’s the only one that is incapable of concentrating on driving while talking on his phone

  27. Yeah but was it his talking on the cell that distracted him or someone bitching and nagging him that distracted him. I think I’ll go with the nagging.
