Did anyone else hear about the elderly couple from Pictou accused with attempted abduction because they waved at a child from their car on the way into a store?
Some numbtyfuck called the cops when they entered the grocery store, and on the way out, they were stopped in the parking lot, taken to the police station and “questioned extensively” in “separate interrogation rooms”.
I understand it’s better to be safe than sorry, but seriously, calling the cops because people WAVED at a kid? What’s next?
And people wonder why our society is full of “unfriendly” people who completely ignore each other.
My favorite idiotic quote on the story was the cop who said “We were satisfied no abduction took place.”
Wow, thanks Captain Obvious – they waved at a kid in the parking lot and went to buy groceries, you showed up at their car on the way out of the store, and all they had was a few bags of groceries, OBVIOUSLY they didn’t kidnap the kid, unless of course they had him carved up in the meat department and individually wrapped in cellophane, but I betcha didn’t think of *that*. Fucking asshat.
—Obviously someone abducted common sense…
This article appears in Nov 26 – Dec 2, 2009.

I wouldn’t smack the cops for taking the call very very seriously but I don’t put it past “friendly Nova Scotians” to pick up the phone seeing a problem where there isn’t one
Perhaps there is more to this story, right? Kay, fuck you. Stop hijacking every friggin’ thread.
Yes, they *should* take a call like this seriously, however, the person who *made* the call is a freaking idiot – how do they know the couple weren’t the kid’s grandparents or neighbours?
Kays anti Nova Scotia posts are predictable and boring. Cmon Kay, I know you can be douchier than that, I believe in you!
Any call of an attempt ot abuduct a child should be taken extremely seriously. Unfortunately with all the police present, there just didn’t happen to be any with any common sense what so ever. But hey they’re cops, your not going to come across very many cops with any common sense. They beat that out of them when they brainwash them into their police image !
I know this is true from when my marriage was near its end, I came home from work one evening to a very drunk & abusive wife. She was ranting & raving, smashing dishes, throwing the contents of the fridge around the kitchen. I told her “see ya” & started to leave, she went absolutely apeshit & in her frenzy, started to have chest pain, I called the police, Identified myself & explained what was going on & I was leaving, but that she may get worse & might need help.
I then went outside while she continued her verbal tirade, & I waited for the police. When they arrived & after I explained the medical condition, one officer went inside & she (my wife) said I had beat her up. But there was no marks on her, no marks on my hands, & the house was in a shambles & she was staggeringly ,stinking drunk. I was sober & arrested for impairment, & asault. When taken to the lockup in Halifax, I was refused the breatalhyser…that’s right ,THEY WOULDN’T LET ME BLOW ! I was placed in a cell & held until about 6 am or so, almost 8 hours. I went directly to my doctor’s office & explained what had happened, he drew blood & I had blood work done… it came back ,no trace of alcohol, because I hadn’t had a drink in days.
The best part is when I was being transported, another unit with a female officer showed up at the house & in their attempts to talk to my now ex-wife she assaulted the female officer & then assaulted 2 others who attempted to remove her from the house & she had to be restrained & she was locked up & charged.
There is almost no thought in what cops do…they go by their book.
If the book says lock them up, that’s what they do…thank god we have a court system in this country where you have a little bit better chance, someone else decides if charges will be pressed or dropped & a judge then gives you… at least a chance to tell your side of the story.
HRM has an automatic lock up in cases of violence in domestic abuse…problem is , when cops aren’t allowed to think, innocent people lose their liberty.
Well, for some strange reason Fizz, Kay can be reached for comment at:
ltwwb@live.com
Yup, its not the cops at fault here, I doubt even the couple would think so.
But lets not automatically hate on the caller either.
Does anyone know if the caller actually saw the incident? The kid could have easily exaggerated the story into something much more suspicious. Or simply mistook the wave for a beckon. I wouldn’t blame the little kid for that, assuming they’ve had stranger danger ground into their brains by paranoid parents. Can you even blame the parents? Their hearts are in the right place wanting to protect their kids, and the news is practically marinated in child molestation stories these days.
It could just be an unfortunate misunderstanding, a product of our fucked up society.
how can I somehow see a floodgate of spam going to that address????
would I like to sign up to your newsletter? of course not but I know someone that would…..
and more, sadly I can believe every word of that.
… old crows had it coming.
I am just wondering why she used that e-mail as her contact source to sent someone something. I mean, how does she retrieve mail from a Coast address?
It’s not a coast email, HKM — live.com is microsoft’s email service.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if we ALL IGNORE KAY she’ll probably go away. She’s here for attention/shock value, fellow bitchers. And given the inconsistencies of her comments, I’m actually betting even SHE doesn’t believe half the shit she makes up. That’s right: makes up.
Anyway, there’s probably more to the story, although the caller’s probably a dumbass. I don’t blame the cops in this situation because they have to take such things seriously.
OR HKM, KAY IS REALLY TIM OR ANDY’S SICK ATTEMPT TO FUCK WITH OUR HEADS :|
The couple should file a complaint against the police department and begin speaking with their lawyer.
PK: “if we ALL IGNORE KAY she’ll probably go away”
I doubt it = ). I usually ignore her for the most part, but I got stupid and let myself get sucked in = (.
I sometimes think she more than one person. But, I got say, the person who writes her when she is coherent and civil takes some pretty firm stances but their arguments and passion make them a pleasure to read at times. The other Kay….distasteful, one-dimensional and an insult.
commenting is hijacking? FUCK YOU, sheep.
At first glance the incident does seem excessive but sometimes a second hand report is incomplete.
An older “gentleman” used to cruise through the streets of the North End of Sydney at very slow speeds ( 10 to 20 kph). He would wave and give odd leers and grins to all the kids who were in their yards and out on the street. The behaviour would make the hair on the back of my neck raise up and give me chills.
So, if someone followed the “older gentleman home” and asked him what his problem was, maybe that would have cleared the problem up?
My vote is for the police.
Obviously the police had to investigate – if they didn’t, and there was something *to* investigate, we’d be bitching about a totally different thing right now…
I read this story – they responded to a call from a someone who saw the man wave – from inside his truck while driving into the parking lot. OK, I get the idea that this ight be considered creepy, HOWEVER, they surrounded their truck in the parking lot with a total of 5 RCMP cruisers…
I’m just saying, if the couple was physically accosting the child or was getting out of the truck, or were trying to get the child into the vehicle, people should get on the horn ASAP if not jump in on it and try to stop it, but 5 cruisers surrounding them when they had no physical interaction with the child followed by 2 hours of interrogation? A little excessive…
Again, cops were doing their job, but the jackhole who called the cops in should feel pretty shitty about him/herself.
Pretty bad when you cannot even wave to a child without them thinking you want to abduct them. Would it have been more weird if he’d stopped the truck and got out to wave? Guess we’ll have to stop our kids from getting truckers to honk their horns by giving a pull down sign, guess we’ll have to stop letting people across the street or into a parking spot by giving them a little wave. Maybe I’ll have to stop waving at the engineers in the trains now too.
Maybe the kid just had a seminar in school about strangers and was just eagerly waiting for any opportunity to prove he remembered it all.
How do we know the kid did not wave first?
I have had small kids wave at me (I usually wave back BECAUSE I REMEMBER WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO BE A KID! YOU DIDN’T MEAN ANYTHING BY IT You
thought it was great some adult waved back. You’d do it until someone did then laugh.)
Occasionally children have come up to me in a store( because I look friendly, even goofy, I guess) say hi and even start a conversation. SO what am I supposed to do now, RUN away screaming… say nothing, (thus, confirm thoughts that all adults are idiots) or not acknowledge that they are there and speaking? WHAT?? Take a chance that some warp minded individual might see this interaction and call the RCMP on me.
I love children, I think they are amazing, remarkable treasures ( for the most part) whose minds are being stifled and are becoming de-humanized by an utter lack of interaction with live humans. Parents, friends use cell phones, texting, e-mails, Farcebook, anything so we don’t have to look each other in the eyes.
Bear in mind also, it WAS, after all, PICTOU. The RCMP have been bored for weeks.
What was that call like anyway,
CALLER: “UMMM RCMP? I just saw an old man and woman wave at a child from inside a truck at the Sobeys here near the Rotary. You’d better get up there before something horrible happens. HE looked suspiciously like a grandpa, and you know how those lonely, old people are like… always wanting to give kids candy, be nice to them, give them a hug, smile at them you know, all that kind of weirdness. Bring guns, tasers and mace. let’s see some action! “
CONSTABLE : “OF course, ma’am, I’ll get our ERT team right on that, sounds serious! Maybe the ambulance and a couple of cruisers, is that okay ? Should we call you back and let you know how things went? Perhaps a email with some video footage…??? A wall post on Facebook??” Barring that we’ll keep them “on ice ‘ for a few hours so we can write it up in our log book.
It’s a sad state of affairs when you can’t be friendly anymore without some people interpreting a salutation out of context as an aggresive manner. Kay…Lighten up or move back where you came from. Nova Scotians, at the most are friendly. You must be an asshole magnet.
Actually, I’ve fallen victim to the busy-body rural Nova Scotian.
I had driven my old T-bird 3600 miles in 8 days from Vancouver to a small village (my hometown) on the South Shore. Arriving at 04:00, a little ahead of schedule, and not wanting to wake my folks up, I parked in the post office parking lot, in plain view of all, and shut off the engine to wait for sun-up.
After a while I saw a 4X4 cruise by, and deliver a paper to the house across the road….it stayed there for a minute, left, and then a few minutes later cruised by again…then they were gone for about 15 minutes.
Suddenly the sky was red and blue with lights from at least 3 RCMP cruisers, boxing me in…and two officers approached, one on each side…
Turns out a “concerned citizen” had called in a “suspicious looking vehicle” with “foreign license plates” (?!) and an “unsavoury character, ‘passed out at the wheel’…(I’ve since had a shave, and removed a few piercings)
Thanks, neighbourhood watch early-morning paper-lady, thanks alot, lol.
Anyway, after agreeing with me that a BC plate was not “foreign”, we had a chuckle and the cop lamented that they are forced to respond to this type of thing on a regular basis. Funnily, the paper-lady had parked just up the road, obviously keen to watch me get tasered, and for her to collect her good-neighbour award.
Sorry to disappoint sweetheart, but you sure did get a surprise when the cops walked away and my headlights suddenly lit up your world, didn’t ya? Your face looked like a smacked baby’s arse…
from the news report i heard, it was the kid who called, got scared, ran home, and then the cops came on the scene. how about it andy, did you get that too?
That’s weird. In my hometown there was a white industrial van that terrorized the neighborhood for months, stalking young girls…nothing was done. I still see him every Tuesday at the deli in the summers…at least he shaved…
