So Bridgewater wants to ban smoking in every public place. I’m getting fucking sick and tired of this bullshit. My parents smoked around me all my childhood, including in an enclosed car and I made it to 50 plus. I try to be a considerate smoker in public but that ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH. O.K., SO MAKE THEM FUCKING ILLEGAL ALREADY!!!! I am so sick and tired of government wanting this issue both ways – they want the revenues with one hand but wave a scolding finger whenever someone wants to light up. And don’t give me that bullshit argument about smokers costing the health care system. We smokers pay so much fucking tax, it’s pathetic. Cigarettes are $2.50 in the US, you do the math. I JUST WISH THE POWERS THAT BE WOULD MAKE UP THEIR GODDAMN MINDS – EITHER BAN IT OR SHUT THE FUCK UP.

I understand exactly what you are saying and you are right that they should finally decide on banning them or stop preaching…but if you think even 13 of those taxes for cigarettes actually makes it to the health care system…that’s unfortunate. They spend that on Health Program’s for Africa and other places…not here! They just promised what…105 Million dollars for health awareness programs in Africa, I guess OUR education and health care just aren’t important enough and some idiot dictator really needs more help so he can funnel more of his own countries money towards an unnecessarily overblown military to keep himself in power.

They aren’t making it more and more illigal due to health costs – The reason is that we SHARE the air, but you’re polluting air “I” have to breathe.You want to smoke? Good point about gov’t hypocracy and I agree with you on that point. However, no sympathy for your plight from the smoking legislation. I’ve made a conscious decision not to smoke so why should I inhale yours?
O.K. so there’s all these non-smokers who don’t want to inhale – fine – so make it illegal then. Then start banning fast food ’cause that’s not good for you either. I walked by McDonald’s the other day and gained 5 pounds from watching people eat fries. I’m sorry, but what’s the difference between inhaleing someones elses cigarette smoke and inhaleing the exhaust of a Transit bus or tractor trailer? I know no one sticks their face into the tail pipes of these giant vehicles but no one sticks their face within inches of my cigarette either. I try very hard to be as courteous as I can when I’m outside having my smoke ie. staying away from others and even not exhaling when I have to walk past someone. It’s too bad others can’t do the same BUT…

The difference between bus exhaust and cigs is that one is of necessity (busses) and one is based in selfish self gratification. Go smoke in your houses and chew nicorette when you can’t, it’s pretty simple but some smokers just can’t seem to get it. Deal with your addiction and stop making everybody else out to be “the bad guys” when it’s YOUR ADDICTION not theirs.

heh I love this kind of argument. The other night I was standing about 20′ from the entrance to our building smoking a cigarette. I saw no less than 5 vehicles parked in the fire lane because they were making a quick trip into the bank’s ATM center. Of the 5 vehicles, 3 of them left their exhausts running for a full 10 minutes. At that time of night 8:00 pm, the parking lot was empty at the Bayer’s Rd. Shopping Center and there were plenty of spaces for each car. All they had to do was cross the the lane – about 20 ft. The icing on the cake was when a guy in a huge pickup truck parked right in front of me. It was closer for him to park in the parking spaces. He got out of his truck, gave me a dirty look and left his truck engine running. Ten minutes later he comes out and says to my friends and I … “you smokers make me sick”. He SHOULD NOT have done that. I went absolutely ballistics on his redneck ass.One of the friends I was with was the security guard at the mall. He was handed a handsome ticket/fine. It was ok for him to park in a fire lane and leave his exhaust spewing out of his truck, but it was not ok for us to smoke 20′ away from the entrance and out of anyone’s direct line of breathing space? I don’t think so. Cigarette smoke dissipates into the air and completely disappears in seconds. Exhaust remains in the atmosphere indefinitely and is the one single largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Give it a HUGE FUCKING rest anti-smoking nazis.

One bus’ exhaust is a hell of a lot better than the exhaust from the 50 cars it takes off the road per load of 50 passengers.

While there are too many people that choose to drive to work alone in their cars (Yes…I agree with you on that point, even though you worded it with less awareness and maturity) you cannot ignore the staggering numbers of the studies that have been done regarding smoking, how can you ignore the facts?!?!?! I smoked for 10 years and while the first few years yes it tasted and felt great, after those first few years there was nothing fun, tasty or ok about it, it was something I truly hated about myself. I made a positive change in my life by making the right choice, and you can too. Yeah it will suck for a bit but trust me you will feel much better when it is all said and done, plus you will have a bunch more money left over at the end of the week.
