To the girl who I invited under my umbrella while we waited for the bus during the awful downpour a few days ago: we talked, we laughed, half of me got wet so you could stay dry and you got on the bus without a word of thanks… Well, you’re welcome anyway. —Umbrella sharer

  1. She talked to you. That was the thanks. Don’t you realise that you were privileged to share your umbrella with her? That you should have said thanks? Sheesh, some people just don’t get “The New Deal”.

Besides, it is too windy here for umbrellas to be of much use anyway. A mile into a walk in the rain you’re just as wet as you would be without one, and the wind will rip it to shreds, just a matter of time.

  2. I’m a girl, and I would consider this to be rude. “Thank you” isn’t very hard to say. Having your head up your own ass is a far more strenuous task….but people in Halifax pull it off with panache.

  3. Maybe she simply forgot after getting caught up in such an amazing conversation. Or perhaps she was lost by your charm and dashing eyes, OP.

  4. I think her friendly attitude and body language would be enough.. I know there’s been times where i forget to say thank you and feel like a real ass-hat after wards.

  5. I assume she forgot too and I’m with GGkid in which her friendly attitude substituted the ‘thank you’. I’m hoping this is the case though. Depending on the mood I’m in, if I hold the door for someone, for example, and they don’t thank me in any way, I’ll say ‘Your welcome’ bluntly.

  6. Be proud of yourself that you’re probably the only one in the city that would actually do that.
