To the asshole(s) that broke into my place and stole my computer last night: thanks, I clearly didn’t need a laptop as much as you needed crack. And thanks for scaring the shit out of my roommate, she was more than thrilled to find someone running out of our kitchen with our most expensive possessions. It was a great welcome to the neighborhood, having moved in yesterday and all. Seriously, fuck you. —I want my mac back

  1. Just moved in? I suspect the parade of items going into your new place caused someone watching to mentally add them to their shopping cart for pick up later. Perhaps covering everything would be a good idea next time you have to transport anything of value. It sucks but in some neighbourhoods, it’s just the way it is.

  2. Hugo, some pawn shops ship suspect items out to sister shops in other areas of the province. I know for a fact that not only were my stolen items pawned but I found out where they were pawned. When I went to the specific shop with my serial numbers, I was told that they hadn’t received them. There was nothing I could about it. The only thing that saved me was that so much was stolen at once, it was worth the deductible to make a claim through insurance.

  3. Fuck off, zZz. Srsly 😀

Do you have tenants insurance? Best 20 bucks a month you’ll ever spend.

Back your shit up on an external HD every second day (with Time Machine it takes no time at all because it only backs up the changes) and hide it somewhere and put insurance on your shit. That way you’ll still have your data from your HD and a new macbook for free to put it on 🙂

  4. If I had insured my possesions from theft since I set out on my own….I would have had $8000.00 less to spend on beer !

  5. Hi Kim, I realize that, but it’s a start, rather that waiting for the cops to stumble upon it. Still sucks to be robbed. What neighbourhood btw?

  6. Part of my lease is a condition where I have to have tenant’s insurance. I think it should be mandatory for renters because if your place burns down, for example, by no fault of your own (like your neighbour smokes in bed and falls asleep) and you don’t have insurance, and you lose anything you’re fucked. And it’s all too common to find people who rent not properly insured.

A few years back at Acadia my parents put insurance on my laptop — it was like 40 bucks a year. Well, one year I dropped my laptop on my hardwood floor and it cost over $300 to fix. Insurance covered it all with no deductible. Next year I accidently spilled something on my keyboard and insurance covered it again — $150 in repairs. So, quite a good savings.

My insurance covers 100k for about $20 a month. Split 3 ways that’s less than $7 bucks a month for the security of knowing if something happens to my shit, I can get new shit to replace it.

  7. I can’t imagine not having tenant’s insurance. I don’t trust the people in my building not to burn everything to the ground.

  8. I think tenants insurance is mandatory in all buildings…but it’s just not enforced. It’s because if you start a fire or have a pipe burst or something then it’s not just your own unit that gets wrecked. My only apartment ever – there was a neighbour who left their window open and the pipes froze in their unit and caused the unit below to flood. His insurance had to cover it all.

  9. I know that, O, but what’s the percentage of PCs that are sold with an MS OS?

    Just sayin’ 😉

  10. how many pc’s have a copy of Micro$haft’s OS that they didn’t (have to) pay for?
    or Ubuntu?
and that’s kinda not fair PK because every xbox has an MS OS ….

3d tv’s are awesome but at their price-point, there’s no fucking way I’m shelling out for one.
2d tv’s are just too cheap and work great…..
that’s my analogy for apple and PC. Apple products may be ‘nice’ or ‘pretty’ but that fucking company is a devil spawn and inflate their products prices by ridiculous amounts… even so much that the best sale you’ll ever find for anything new is less than 5%.
