The Virgin Fest was pretty good considering The Hip pulled out because of personal issues. (which is fine and Dinosaur Jr. fucking rocked by the way!) But godamnit! $6 for a can of beer! FUCK ME GENTLY!!! $24 for 6 beer! I’m glad that the concert was free, because I wouldn’t have been able to buy a few beer if I had paid the $75 for a ticket.
Another thing, the setup of the concert, the beer gardens to the right, and everyone else to the left (separated by fences of course) which is fine. OK here was the situation, people who were drinking on the right side were not allowed to smoke. People on the left were allowed to smoke but not to consume alcohol. WTF???
All day & night security were running around telling the beer drinkers to put out their smokes. Why didn’t they just allow the drinkers to smoke? Hell, 80% of drinkers usually smoke (even non smokers will bum a cig when their drunk) what really got me is that the “smoking side” is were families and kids were.
We’re all outside, it wouldn’t have mattered who smoked, it still would blow right into your faces (especially the pot smoke).

This is probably related to the law that says areas in establishments licensed to serve liquor or food cannot allow smoking. The Citadel isn’t a bar or restaurant but I’m guessing the license requires this the same as if it was a bar.
It absolutely is because of the liquor laws. Any outdoor concert is the same. Take your beef up with the nova scotian government, not the event organizers. I’m sure they would have wanted you to be able to smoke inside the fence.

A free concert is a fucking treat so there is absolutely no good reason to complain about a free show – especially one with the line-up Virgin Fest had.
Beer? Fine, drink. Its your privilege to, same with smoking. However there are laws in place to protect minors and keep idiots from acting like idiots. Plus, nobody forced you to spend cash on beer. You made the choice to.

Just smuggle in booze like my friends did, they were barely patting people down at the gate. Of course not wanting to buy a $6 pop for mix means you get wasted off of straight hard liquor, but it hey I had fun.

At what cost? Well security (police and guards), the staff to set up and tear down of the stage and area, repairs to the ground, wages of others involved, electricity, Johnny on the spots,etc. They all had to be paid and some at time and a half or more.
