There is no such thing as a “Chick Flick”. I will tell you what you mean when you say “Chick Flick”: you mean a film with a strong female lead, or a film with a number of women in leading roles. I am so fucking sick and tired of a lifetime of films with men in leading roles, living out lives and stories and themes deemed relevant by male writers. As a woman I have been expected to accept these films as simply “films”. I have never thought of these films with male leads as “Dick Flicks” and all films with female leads as simply “films”… but maybe it warrants a flipping of perspective… —Tired of the Dick Flicks

Actually chick flicks are movies where women take on primarily passive roles and need to be saved by a man. Underworld is an example of a movie where a woman takes on a lead role, yet it’s referred to as an action movie not a chick flick. Same with Kill Bill. There are many others.
BTW you’re not “expected” to think of any kind of movie in any particular way just because you’re male or female. That’s the great thing about movies. You can watch them and form your own thoughts about them regardless of your gender or race.
i don’t like classifications, what about sin city?
No, by “Chick Flick” I mean the kind of Jane Austen authored, Oprah Winfrey produced, cheesecake and menstruation fueled tear-fest that I would gouge my eyeballs out my head, plunge soldering irons into both aural canals, chew my left arm off to escape, walk out of even if it was showing on an Airbus 380 @ 40,000 feet over the North Atlantic. And I don’t care if it’s 2 orphaned spinsters fighting over who gets to pork Mr. Darcy, 5 sassy middle-aged sistahs getting they grooves packed, or some pouty little emo-highschooler being forced to choose between necrophilia or bestiality. CHICK FLICKS!
So while you are marching to take back the cineplex; I’ll be cracking open a Bud, nuking some Hiroshima Wings and watching a double bill of The Eagle Has Landed and The Wild Geese.
So keep the noise down and bring me another beer.
>; )
I think your definition of ‘chick flick’ differs from the rest of the planet. Shite like Sex and City is a chick flick, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore and Natural Born Killers are not chick flicks.
Anyone who thinks this shit is bitch-worthy, really REALLY needs to get a fucking life.
The only way I’d sit through a Chick Flick is with good restraints and a water buffalo sitting on top of me.
okay, well based on your definitions, i don’t watch chick flicks
this is my kind of chick flick http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Q-7Wu98Kls8/TMsM…
nobody’s ever properly corrected you when you told them your definition of chick flick?
that’s kinda sad… your friends are supposed to be the ones to correct you when you’re wrong.
according to your definition ‘Domino’ is a chick flick?!?!?
chick flick is exactly what it means… only women really want to see it…
and any men in the theatre are there hoping there’s at least partial nudity before the stars cuddle and just talk the entire remainder of the movie.
Russ Meyer made chick flicks that could really make you think.

Chick Flick=Anything with Jennifer Aniston
When you say “strong female lead” i have to wonder if you misunderstand the definition of “chick flick” or have been brainwashed (like so many women) into thinking that weak, childish, stupid women (the ones often found in chick flicks) are “strong females”
Either way your husband would be proud.
…and meg ryan, mr lemming. now this, is a chick flick http://images.allmoviephoto.com/1979_Alien…
Hey troon, you think Leprechaun is a chick flick?
I thought horrible bosses was pretty funny…
and in no way is office space relegated to ‘chick flick’ status.
Office space wasn’t a chick flick trood!!
But that was the old Jennifer, not the new, old Jennifer.
I second PK’s statement.
I thought “Falling Down” was kinda chick-flicky.
Heh.
i really liked that movie pk, so did the bear
My Dad sued the studio for royalties. Unsuccessfully.
HAHAHA.
I’ve got it on DVD. Only DVD I was willing to pay more than 10 bucks for.
Then it rang up for $6.99. LOLZ.
falling down was great… I get the urge every couple years to rewatch it…
I’m pretty sure every sarah jessica parker movie is a chick flick.
Though I haven’t IMDB’d to verify.
only a woman would like that face….
ug
SJP is hideous.
I’ve used those terms for years!
Chick Flick: Feel good stories with happy endings:
Dirty Dancing, Pride and Prejudice (BBC version), 13 going on 30
Dick Flick: Testosterone induced action flicks: fight club, die hard, anything chuck morris
What’s the problem?
The quintessential chick flick ….Oppressed chick fights back. Moves to Bumblefuck, Nowhere with her child. Has psuedo-lesbian connection with local woman. They go into business together. Discovers all that she has missed in life. Kid gets maimed by train accident. Jilted ex husband comes looking for, and finds her. Gets killed and served as BBQ. All this being told in the second person narrative while in the present timeframe, lonely, southern housewife stuck in a loveless marriage becomes inspired by this story told by an elderly lady at the old folks home; discovers her “inner woman”. Adopts lame battle cry to counter soul-sucking situations. Old woman dies. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….. “Fried Green Tomatoes”
Yeah, Vastie, but that movie has one great line “You eat eggs, don’t you? They shoot right out of a chicken’s ass!”
umm… Chick flicks are movies that are marketed towards a largely female audience.. Am I missing something?
Fucking feminists, how bout you just provide me a list of terms and words that you disapprove of. I’m all out of toilet paper.
Hey, Tommyjules, who pissed in your cornflakes?
There’s always “Sluts Do Sackville” and “Lesbians in Lawrencetown.” How are those for chick flicks?
Y’know what the most horrifying line of dialogue in movie history is?
“I vonce hat a form in Ofrica”
Horrifying because it means that you are sitting through all 17 butt-numbing hours of “Out of Africa” with Meryl Streep adding yet another foreign accent to her repertoire. (I swear, bitch must have a map of the world and she colours in each country as soon as she does the local dialect.)
Hay Meryl “I vonce hat a hymeryde in my oyness” but I didn’t get a friggin’ Oscar for it.
LOVE films with a strong leading female character that kicks ass and isn’t pushed around by men, but I HATE chick flicks. OP has no fucking clue does she?
lol. Xeno, The OP did metaphorically with this whiny self victimizing bullshit.
PK did physically this morning, but I liked it.
lol, Colonel, I had a roommate that needed an extension for her passport she travelled so much–she had a world map with different coloured push pins…we always speculated on what the different colours meant…
Y’OK, Tommyjules, couldn’t imagine what you had against strong women…
BTW, Tommyjules sounds like a mafia name, but I can’t think of a good nickname for you…give me time…
Based on OP’s definition, I like chick flicks like Underworld, and Kill Bill.
It’s those fucking annoying touchy feeling romance movies that have no action, too much talking, and no violence……. that is what I really hate.
The all time greatest actual ‘chick flick’ is Amelie. Hands down.
I didn’t know Jennifer Aniston was in Horrible Bosses. Not familiar with Office Space or Leprauchan but it always seems like she’s in romantic comedies but what do I know?
I’m in Brangelina’s camp anyway. lol
Honestly, are any threads on here bitch-worthy?
Who let you watch movies anyway???? Get back in the kitchen and make me a sammich…….. the game is on!
Xeno,
I LOVE strong women. OP sounds like she has a woe is me complex.
Penny: OK, all right, you know what? I’ll tell you what happened. We were young, we were very much in love, but we could only communicate through a time-traveling mailbox at my lake house.
Sheldon: It’s not enough that you made me watch that movie, but now you mock me with it?!
ug. the lakehouse. NEVER watching that feminine fecal fest of a movie.
Troon, here’s a chick flick for ya.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0145734/
I actually sat through it start to finish once… and it is interesting…
though I wasn’t all weepy and emotional as I’m sure the writer intended.
it was more like… “where the fuck is this slow ass movie going???”
then at the end you’re like… “ohhhh…. well that could have been a shit load shorter…whatever”
wow, jon stewart and sean connery…aah feck it, i still don’t want to watch it. nice avatar avast, hope i don’t see too many of those this year…scary
Kristin Scott Thomas. Avoid any movie with her in it. Especially “The English Patient” which is the celluloid version of watching grass grow.
It did have some nice flying sequences Trood. Lovely restored De Havilland Tiger Moth and Boeing Stearman. Man I wept when Colin Firth crashed that beauty.
