Bridge Commission, when the f*%# are you going to re-open those MacPass lanes? Your top dog is applying to the Utilities Review Board to increase tolls to a dollar a trip, yet you can’t seem to complete a simple project like putting up dividers. When did this interuption start? I can’t remember, was it October? was it maybe September? I dunno, but whoever has the contract to do this work, is certainly taking their good ‘ol time at the expense of the traveling public. I was jokingly lamenting to someone about a month ago saying; “oh, that won’t be finished ’til next year.” You know, I believe my statement will be correct. It’s December now and I drive by this mess day after day and often don’t see any work being done. They’re not all bad-weather days, guys.
I’m not hoping for it, but soon we may be into snow. I can’t picture seeing a crew working on this in the snow. Is that a low shoulder on the Dartmouth aproach where you took the asphalt out to put these barriers in? So now as well as the construction barrels, a new low shoulder to increase the hazard of winter driving. I thought the original idea for installing these was for safety, yet here you go creating more safety issues… good work. Not to mention slowing down the traffic flow. It all adds up to one big “cluster f#%@” of incompetence. And you want to raise the tolls? Try doing your job for a change. —Dervish

Oddly enough there appeared to be nothing wrong with the previous dividers on the approach from the 111 to the MacKay. This was entirely a make-work project, and a method for the Bridge Commission to justify their rate hike when it comes time.
I agree OP, they should open up the damn lanes. I don’t even see people working on the site during the week, just on weekends. Companies that cannot complete a job in a timely manner should be penalized financially.
I probably cross the bridge maybe five times a year, so I have no idea what this is going on about.
And yes, that was a completely arbitrary and unnecessary comment. horraaaaaay
I cross that bridge every day (twice) but it doesn’t bother me any…I am always scared that those cones may come flying at me though. Hopefully they are heavy enough during high winds.
Could always be worse, I suppose

OB…do you have any idea how hard it is to coordinate the movements of 25 people just so they can watch 1 person work ?
Especially in a dangerous area like the toll booths !
You gotta get all those road watchers in place & then the hardest job of all convincing one of the 26 guy’s to actually touch the shovel ! ! !
Everyone wants the stand around & pose job…no one wants the shovel job.
So when the shovel guy stays home, everyone else gets a day off as well. After all what kind of sense is there in having 25 guy’s just standing around with no one to watch work ?!?!?!?
I thought everyone else already knew this .
get outta my head commander…screee
I sense a touch of sarcasm here Mr. More…and I like it. >; )
Don’t give people ideas Ivan…I will have to avoid both bridges now….
When I was still living in South End Halifax and Dunder-Mifflin moved from Lady Hammond out to Burnside – I felt like that German officer EVERY morning. > : (
Dunder-Mifflin?
The nom de geurre of the company I work for Monday to Friday.
ahhhh I see.
A bridge too far, thats one of my favorite war movies 😛
the only way to get more money from us is to make it look like they are doing something for us, or just to look busy. and i agree about the old deviders too.
Mine too, Ninja Boot.
…and Painey, I like hanging out in your head.
The rent’s affordable, the critters are friendly and the cookies – TO DIE FOR! Screeeeeeeeeee!.

Oh that poor border collie >: ( Did you read the Leacock story that your Mom’s Christmas toaster reminded me of? It’s on the interweb.
…Sorry, that should have read “can opener”.
nope, i’ve been baking. i woke up a few times in the night thinking i was burning cookies. i’ll look today
Mmmmmmmm Cooooooooookies. Lllllllaaaaaaaarrrrgggghhhhhhhh.
Although I completely agree with the fact that this job is taking entirely too long and I cross that bridge twice a day everyday and have seen someone working there maybe once. My ex husband was in the concrete business and I remember him telling me that dividers need to be replaced every so many years because they hold their strength forever – and if someone were to plow into them the first year they are there, then they wouldn’t go through it – but 5-10 years later the concrete could crumble. But at the same time I have no idea how old they are?
I don’t understand why the bridge narrows so abruptly to one lane after being two, right before entering the funnel on the Dartmouth side – it is as if they want to create extra congestion.
I wish they’d extend the road to the right on the right lane by about 3 feet for a total distance of about 10 feet right at that point – that way it wouldn’t be like a 4 way stop with one lane going forward and then the next. What’s up with that anyway??
last night was ridiculous….. coming back TO halifax at 5:30 the bridge was bumper to bumper from burnside all the way across and down the bedford highway.
just wanted to say, the contractor with the work (I think) is Dexter construction. Trust me, if it were up to them this would have been done a long time ago. Temperature constraints are an issue with concrete, it wont cure properly if the water inside the concrete freezes, likewise with asphalt, it needs to be hot when placed and HRM says any day below 5 deg is no dice… Also, I think this is probably a weekend/night work project considering all the dangerous traffic at other times
I’m not a concrete worker, but when I was in my 20th year i got a job as a diving tender ( I was scuba diving at 16) I had to suit up & make sure the commercial divers umbilical’s were clear, I hooked stuff on & off the crane hook in the water & sometimes dove down to the sites we were working on…I know you can pour concrete under water.
I know for a fact it gets hard.
SO if you can do it under water…you’ve got to be able to do it on the weather we’ve been having ion the last couple of months !
Its been raining & wet out….
But nothing like it is 30 feet below the surface of the ocean ! ! !
Fantastic!
I just drove over the bridge yesterday, and viola it’s done!
Why, it’s as if someone of importance got to read this bitch.
All the barrels and tarps are gone… just like that.
Could it have been that as a child somebody’s mommy never taught him to put his toys away when he finished playing.
It would seem the only thing holding the project up of late, was to just get their stuff out of there.
Further more there was plenty of time for the cement to cure, had they finished what they started in a reasonable time.
As far as cookies are concerned (nothing to do with the topic at all) why don’t you; a) use something more appropriate like Facebook or MSN Messenger, OR b) just ram them up your ass.
