If the media is correct, the Mayor of HRM has been awarded a 4% pay raise, might I as a taxpayer ask why? Councillors have also been awarded with pay raises, again I ask why? —C.W.

  1. well c.w., it’s this way, he is the mayor, and he approves his raises, what more can i say. isn’t politricks great in this fucking country.

  2. im sorry why is it ok to question a pay raise…bet you and many others receive a yearly increase in your wages,so why can’t politicians get a yearly wage increase…seems to me that if you want good people to represent your interest in council, you have to pay them a good wage…remember the old adage, you get what you pay for….crappy wages, crappy employees

  3. It’s okay to question a pay raise because the people who are receiving them are already overpaid and have been fucking up more than usual? And their pay comes out of our taxes?

Or am I just bitter because I’m currently poor.

  4. mentor, in companies where they cannot afford to give raises they don’t, And from where I’m standing, neither HRM or the province or even the Feds don’t have the money for raises.

  5. I read it somewheres that a mayor for a city with a bit smaller population than Halifax is getting paid 110,000, while Halifax’s finest is getting paid 140,000 (or something). Yes I am a bit bitter too, because I got myself a raise by getting a new job that pays $6.50/hour more than my last job, and yet after all the taxes and deductions, my “raise” turned out to be just 60 cents. ha ha.
