  1. Bahawhawhawhawhaw – sounds like the invasion of Steven Pages wheezing into town. Open food will be prohibited, just in case of a stampede.

  2. ah fat people, the last group of people its perfectly okay to openly make fun of.

I love when fat guys grow the goatee and wear shades all the time to adopt the “tough guy” look.

  3. I’m lean. Soon, we’ll be the ostracized, the outliers.

And public perception will reset itself.

  4. Um,…off-topic, what happened to Weedhog and Dr. Fever?

Who was the Simpson’s afficionado? Is he still around?

Just curious, maybe I missed something.

  5. the worst a ganstas with their pants on the ground and their ass in you face and their fucking billy goat hair jus chill’n like whales on the ghetto beach yo

  6. well if you think anorexic is cool, then you ought to check out the bulemia site and groups. what the hell is the matter with having some meat on you, at least we aren’t a starving vegan asshole, that you must be.

  7. The OB is probably some skinny dude who’s afraid if he actually said something like this to a fat guy the fat guy would pick him up and throw him about 30 feet.

Damn I guess I have to grow my goatee back. Now does one also have to shave his head?

  8. It happens, Bro Tim. No skinny guy has the balls or “guts” to even go up to a “fat” or “big” person and get in their face. The skeletors are more than happy to talk shit behind backs, over computers or from say 50 feet away but never face-to-face.

Most big and/or fat people will likely just bitch slap the skinny guy and make them cry in front of their other skinny friends.

  9. I love how some people see things in black and white.
If you comment on someone being overweight, the person HAS to be super thin. And the person overweight HAS to have just a little bit of “meat on their bones.”

Or, maybe, JUST MAYBE, the OP is commenting on people GROSSLY overweight and probably feels the same (in an opposite way) about people grossly underweight as well.

There are two extremes and both are undesirable, both to be and to look at.
Maybe both should become friends and share food?

  10. i know people who are extremely big. and know this, they eat less than a fly does. it is not their fucking fault that they are bigger than someone else.this is pure fucking discrimination.i just wish you could be in their fucking shoes for a day, to see how they feel. no, no fucking diet, gym, stapling or any of that bullshit will ever help them. they are genetically big. i would think that with all the superior people running loose in this world, some would also have a tinny bit of fucking brains to know this.i weigh in at about 160, and i can eat just about everyone of you under the table. do i get fat, no, do i exercise, very fucking little. all you make funners should be fucking ashamed of yourselves. i hope fate pays you a nasty visit and makes you fattter than anyone you bitch about. bigger people have feelings too, you know, and most i have ever met, are way better people, than i bet most of you reading this, could ever fucking hope to be. get bent o.p., and the rest of the fat people haters too.

  11. Statistically – overweight people (drawing the line at obesity) who exercise have fewer health related problems than thin people who don’t exercise.
Your body type can be thin, but if you eat crap and don’t exercise, a genetically fat guy who tries to take care of himself will live well beyond you.

Also, fat people who eat “less than a fly does” will NEVER lose weight because their metabolism stalls and their body will refuse to give up any fat. To lose weight, they actually need to eat more than most people (but healthy options).

a 500 caloric deficit a day (maybe diet 250, an exercise 250) will equal 3500 calories a week which equals 1 pound.

It is not healthy for most people to lose more than 2lbs a week as again, the metabolism will stall and the weight will come back. This is why people “yo-yo diet.”

  12. To elaborate a bit – It is not healthy for most people to lose more than 2lbs a week because that would amount to a 1000 caloric deficit a day. This will stall the metabolism and cause a whole host of problems, including gaining even MORE weight later on.

In some cases like “The Biggest Loser” these people are used to eating THOUSANDS of calories a day, and their huge bodies burn THOUSANDS – THEY can manage to lose more weight faster because a 1500 caloric deficit a day for them is very different than it is for 98% of the population.

There is however a whole host of other problems with what they do in the quest for ratings.

  13. This thread shows how ignorant ppl can be. So we’ll make fun of ppl that are big, why not pick on ppl with cancer…or mental disabilities, or even black ppl…why not if fat ppl are free to pick at then im going for the rest of this population which includes the following: Blacks, Chinese, Lebs, handicap people as well, blind people, etc. Anyone that is different is getting a mouth full from me.

@ Sodeypop…why do feel the need to pick on someone overweight until they change, worry about yourself. If i ever seen your ass on the street i would beat some sense into you. Some people that are over weight do have mental issues. Just like ppl that use drugs to hide from this world. With ppl like you, have ego’s that are gonna crush this planet not fat ppl.

Oh and if you were ever effected by someone with cancer are dirty and done take care of themselves. They dont eat properly, and do not consume enough vitamins to keep cancer cells from forming. See how that sounds… absolutely retarded. So does all these comments on this thread. People need to just look after themselves.

Well i could rant and rave about this thread, but i think i made a point here. and if you think not, your ignorant!!!

  14. Thanks Mrfitness, you saved me a whole lot of typing.

Months ago I read an article discussing a longitudinal study on weight, diet, predisposition, and “glandular disorders”. The study looked at people from all over the world across a long period of time. The conclusion – there is no such thing as glandular disorders that create fatness/obesity. If there were, such disorders would be observed (relatively) uniformly throughout the world’s populations. Racial/ethnicity factors were statistically weighted, etc (ie – this group is predisposed to ___).

I do not it right to make fun of the overweight; however, I think it is time for people to take a hard look at the quality and quantity of what they eat, what sort of exercise they take, and for medical professionals to grow a spine and tell their patients that they need to take better care of their health. Then get them referred to the right care providers – nutritionists, fitness instructors, etc. Ultimately, though, the onus is on the individual to care for his or her health.

  15. Mrfitness is 100% right — the pitfalls most overweight and obese people fall into is that they don’t eat all day and then eat at night (sometimes overeating because after a day of not eating they’re fucking HUNGRY — anyone would be, not just the fatties!). It’s best to eat six small meals at regular intervals than starve yourself all day because your metabolism’ll be shit and anything you DO put into your body will just stay there because your body’s all “OMG FOOD! BETTER HOLD ONTO THIS BECAUSE WHO KNOWS WHEN WE’LL GET MORE FOOD!”

What gets me about all these “thin” people who bitch about fat people is how they always use the “health” angle, which is a bunch of bullshit. “Ohhh they’re so unhealthy! they need to take responsibility for their health!” Yeah, and YOU need to take responsibility for minding your own fucking business. Thin people make fun of fat people not because they care about their health, they make fun of them because it makes THEM feel better about themselves. That’s why ANYONE disparages anyone else — don’t deny it, you fuckers!

Who cares who is and isn’t fat? Is fat contagious? Are you concerned they’re going to eat all the food and you’ll starve? There are PLENTY of thin people who eat like crap (but have high metabolisms) and sit on their arses and do nothing and judge fatties for being “unhealthy.”

And then there are the “thin” smokers who bitch about fat people…smoking is just as, if not WORSE than being obese.

My point? Mind your own fucking business and leave others alone. If you’re that pathetic that you have to make fun of others to make yourself feel better than you’re no better than the “fatty” you’re disparaging (probably even worse — at least the fatty isn’t a piece of shit like you are).

  16. Why is it ok for someone to tell someone how to live their lives? Especially people on here?? Who cares if they are over weight, its their lives not yours. So what if it effects them? If someone obese was reading this, they probably feel hurt and eat. So in the end you guys are just making them feel worse about themselves and the vicious cycle starts over again. I think life would so much easier to do what you want then trying to fit a mold that society puts out for us. Usually obese people are emotional eaters, just like most people on this planet.

@ Three – as for that article I dont believe it. They write these articles with such little information and basically just someone saying that its the person not their organs. EVERY single person on this planet is different and their bodies will process items totally different. I believe there is medical reasons and the way our food is processed has a huge effect on most obese. Some people can lose weight just by blinking an eye, and some have to run 10 miles each day to burn off a muffin they ate.

So you Large sqquishy lovable people, Im with you!! eat what you want and do what you want. Who wants to live their lives surrounded by these issues? I would want to be happy and that is what should matter.

  17. So I guess we now know everyone’s body type on here by their responses? I’ve seen a lot of morbidly obese fat chicks in HRM too, more than a few with glasses and a couple with half decent goatees too.

  18. Yes and no, BIBC: some of us might be defending our body size, but some of us might just be tired of people not minding their own business no matter if it’s thin people telling fatties to put the fork down or not.

My two pet peeves (in case anyone hasn’t picked this up): people who refuse to mind their own fucking business and people who refuse to take any sort of personal responsibility for their actions. A fatty crying “WHY AM I SOOOO FAT” while laying on a sofa surrounded by empty grease stained KFC buckets is just as bad as someone making fun of some random fat person who has nothing to do with them or their lives.

  19. Good to know I’ve been missed, Shrike. Had to replace my hard drive, the ol’ laptop wouldn’t boot thanks to few bad sectors, and fix the power supply as well. Anyhoo, back on topic…

Ah, leave the fat people to themselves. 9 times out of 10, they’re overweight because they’re either too self conscious to get the exercise they need, or they just don’t give two shits that their two steps away from type 2 diabetes. In all honesty, we should really focus on the grocery stores and companies like Nestle that make it cheaper and easier to eat unhealthy foods. Sure, there needs to be a focus on getting out more, eating less and more better foods, but until we get rid of our over-reliance on convenience foods, we’re stuck getting fat.

  20. nice new avatar doc…i watched super size me for the 2nd time last night, i haven’t eaten fast food in decades and don’t think i will…tho as me nana said “anything is good when you’re hungry”

  21. I agree with many of the things in said here… particularly with the people who’ve provided statistics and such in defense of overweight individuals. I, myself, am overweight. Actually, according to the BMI scale, I’m technically obese. I’m 5’8″ and I weigh in at around 199 lbs. However, four or so months ago, I was weighing in at 217 at my highest. I did something about it, clearly. Changed my diet, watched was eating, and avoided particular foods, but still gave myself the permission to treat myself every so often…

I have three roommates. All of whom are visibly much more smaller than me. But, with the exception of one, they don’t exercise regularly, and they eat shit food. I’m talking deep-frying everything; poutine, egg rolls, chicken strips, fries, etc. I don’t say anything to them about it, because it’s not my business, although I wish they’d make the effort to do something else every one in a while. For their own sakes. Anyhow, yes, they are visibly much smaller than me (all falling into the normal BMI), but the one who does exercise every
once in a while couldn’t even keep up with me in a run yesterday — and I’m no well-trained athlete.

Appearances can be deceiving. Just because someone is thin, doesn’t mean they are healthy. Conversely, it does not mean they are unhealthy, either. Same works with larger people.

  22. The BMI scale is a ridiculous method to determine obesity or fitness. A bodybuilder or weightlifter and others who are larger and in shape would be considered obese. Imagine “Arnie” being called obese.

  23. The definable problem with BMI is that it was never designed to measure the BMI of an individual. It was designed to measure a ‘population average’.

So if you use the BMI scale to measure 1000’s or 10’s of 1000’s of people [at random], you’ll get somewhat accurate results. However, using it to measure an individual may produce a host of problems. (like Wii Fit telling your thin 12 year old their overweight).

The reason BMI is even bloody KNOWN to the population is because it’s what Doctors learned 60 years ago before accurate BODY FAT % measuring devices. So these old doctors learned it eons ago and are still practicing medicine into their 70’s without brushing up on new terms/devices leading to people with inaccurate results. Problem is, people who don’t know better inherently trust their doctor.

  24. The problem with obesity is that even if someone DOES lose all the weight they have to to be considered “thin” their fat cells never go away — they just collapse. The outer layer of the cell is there, so it’s VERY easy to gain the weight back because all you have to do is fill up those puppies. That’s why thin people who were never fat can eat more crap than someone who has been fat and not gain weight. On top of that, a large majority of fat people have slower metabolisms, or conditions that make it hard to keep the weight off. For instance, I have PCOS and without the help of metformin to make my insulin resistance go fuck itself, I can eat a carrot and gain 10 pounds. Whomever said that certain conditions don’t predispose people to being fat is full of shit. Without the medication I can eat 1200 cals a day (spread out in 4-6 meals) and even exercise and my weight won’t budge. Even since my surgery in late feb I’ve gained a few pounds because I haven’t been able to get back to the gym yet — and I can feel it in my legs when I walk and in my arms when I try to open some heavy doors. My resistance is all shot to shit.

  25. As a 220 lb man who lifts weights frequently, and eats normally, I think the makers of “slim fitting” clothing ought to be hung. I tried on a pair of 36 waist dress pants (I’m normally a 34 to 36), and I couldn’t even get them past my thighs. I can’t even look at clothing from Banana Republic without circulation being cut to my genitalia.

Do we all have to dress like emaciated hipsters these days, or am I doomed to the Mr Big and Tall due to my large legs?

  26. Hey PK, I did not mean to infer that there are no conditions that do not predispose individuals to weight gain (I have a number of friends with Type2 diabetes). I was speaking in generalities regarding our population, not specifics.

On the whole, in North America, people make excuses for being overly fat or obese, rather than fess up to terrible eating habits, the refusal to know what they are eating, and an unwillingness to walk farther than couch to fridge. If it was nature (glandular disorder) rather than nurture (how & what we feed ourselves, and exercise levels) there would be relatively consistent levels of fatness/obesity throughout the world.

I agree that a plump, fit individual is healthier than a skinny, sedentary individual. I agree that food companies should be held liable for the crap they produce. But so long as consumers do not question, questioners are labeled lefty fanatics, and our TV lifestyle is more important than cooking, our culture will continue its decline into poor health.

Sahara, I looked for an our last night to find the original article, but was unsuccessful. Suffice to say, however, it was an independent scientific, longitudinal, peer-reviewed study not a commercially-funded CNN report.

  27. For the hungry obese, 2 Whoppers for $5 at Burger King. LOL. Now let’s watch them roll in. Worse than a flock of fat-laden seagulls.

  28. Just returned from a trip south to an all in resort, they should change it to an all you can stuff in your yaphole resort – I’ve never seen so many baby belugas in my life. Nothing nicer than seeing a lardarse (either sex) covered in tats and sun tan lotion in a speedo, complete with a ciggy in their paw and a gutbuster drinks container.
No wonder the airlines are charging a porker rate.

  29. It’s cool, Three. I was referring more to all that lit that’s out there that contradicts other things (sometimes I think just for the sake of contradicting). That and I haven’t slept since like Saturday (or sunday, I can’t remember, honestly). heh.

I totally agree though that people use the whole glandular disorder thing as an excuse. Fact is, there aren’t too many people who really can’t do ANYTHING about their weight. For example, I’ll never be able to eat a normal 2000 calorie diet and maintain a healthy weight, even though 2000cals is perfectly reasonable for my height and ideal weight. Right now I have to stick between 1500 and 1700 calories to lose a little or stay the same. BUT that’s only with the help of insulin sensitizing medication because of my PCOS (which also explains why, when I gain weight it’s all in my tummy and not my arms/legs/ass/face, etc…). Thing *is* I know how to keep my weight under control (with the medication, exercise and diet). I’m just one of the unlucky ones with a shitty metabolism and PCOS (along with T1 diabetes, which means the insulin injections don’t exactly help the weight issue, either), but I know what I should be doing to work on that. I’m not saying EVERY person out there who’s heavier due to medical reasons CAN lose weight, I’m just saying that I agree that it’s used as a cop out/excuse far too often and there are situations where you can do something about it. But then you have people who are just happier stuffing their gobs than putting the fork down and getting to the gym. I mean, there are days where a nice thick slice of extra cheesy lasagne with garlic bread and bumming around at home on the couch in front of the TV seems like a much better option than skipping that cheesy little slice of heaven and getting off my butt and going to the gym…And, in the end, what does it matter who’s fat and who’s not as long as you’re happy with yourself? Of course, there are an awful lot of butterfaces out there who tend to trash others (particularly other girls) based on any imperfection — you know the type — they’re usually the ones with the snarly noses, orange skin from way too much tanning/spray tanning and are stick thin, but who’s face looks like it fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down and probably make fun of fatties to make themselves feel better for having a face not even a mother can love (and of course an oompa loompa complexion). I guess the old saying is true: the fatty can diet — the uggo’ll always be ugly.

And just to add to the exercise debate: exercise, or lack of can really affect your weight. My dad was diagnosed with COPD a few months ago (no, he’s not a smoker — all due to second hand smoke he encountered in the workplace) and he’s gaining weight because he can’t work out or do a lot of physical activity because he gets tired/winded easily. He’s eating like he used to eat pre-diagnosis and is gaining weight because of the lack of physical activity.
