Taking my travel mug over to Tim Horton’s is starting to feel like an empty act of civic responsibility when I ask for a medium and the counter person fills up a medium cup, pours it into my mug, and then DISPOSES of the cup. Do you not get the idea behind bringing a reusable mug? God forbid you should try to free-pour since that half ounce of half-stale coffee is just that valuable.

Have mug, will travel

  1. Wow, I can’t believe that actually happened. Is that person an idiot? Let’s waste a cup every time someone brings their own, just to make sure they don’t get a small amount more than they should. You should really complain to their manager because that’s completely stupid. I only ever drink tea, but they’ve always been good with my travel mug, they rinse it out first and then refill it.

  2. im not sure of the inner workings of tim horton seedy underbelly…but im sure its a company directive to measure within a certain degree of precision the amount of coffee they dispense. ive seen workers at some fast food establishments weighing fries. as for throwing away a new cup everytime…i do not agree with this practice.

  3. I’m curious how much that cup costs compared to the little amount of Coffee they could be off by every time.

  4. When I worked Tims in highschool, most of the travel mugs seemed to hold large or extra large coffee. We would just fill the cup up and charge you as such. If they think that your mug holds more than a medium coffee, that would explain the reason behind pouring it into the cup first. Although, that is stupid anyway, because you just don’t fill it all the way to the top. But, besides that, the cup she/he is throwing away, costs more than the whole cup of coffee you’re getting. When I was working there, we could drink as much coffee as we liked, as long as we had a reusable mug. If we used a tim’s paper cup, we paid for it. Not the coffee. And that medium coffee, even with the ten cent savings, is still not worth the 1.15 that you’d be paying for it.

  5. I love when they use the same spoon to stir the coffee in a used unwashed travel mug they have just filled as they do to stir coffee that has just been poured in a clean unused paper cup.what a great way for another persons saliva to hitch a ride into your coffee ( via the spoon ) and spread viruses. I think some of the staff need a refresher course in cross contamination, or perhaps some of them just need to give a shit about it in the first place Happy cold and flu season from your friends at Tim Hortons ;-)and NO, Coffee is not hot enough to kill the virus/bacteria

  6. What in the hell are you going to Tim’s for anyway. I bet no matter how bad you made your coffee it would still be “Better than Tim’s”, which is what I would call a coffee shop if I opened one. I mean since you are doing the travel mug thing take it a step or two farther and brew your own. Get some beans grind them in your new daily ritual and make a fresh pot of coffee… Oh the smell…hmmm and the taste, so so much better then Tim’s and for that matter better then most of the swill served in this city and many other cities too.

  7. Agreed Scott. Tim’s is a great canadian embaressment. I don’t consider it coffee, just coffee drink
