Hey ladies, does anyone have an recommendation for DJs here in Halifax? I would like to keep the cost around $400 and a light show is NOT necessary. Thanks.

  1. True North DJ or Atlantic Audio are both incredible. For less than $200 a little bit of uplighting can transform your entire reception room. Talk to the DJ’s about it!

  2. Transformation dj and karaoke with Steve Baxter is who you want to go with when you want the best “bang ” for the buck!! Check out his videos at :

  3. Personally i think you should be mindful of the cost. Remember, the wedding reception party is to thank your family and friends for coming and spending the day with you. The cheaper you get with a DJ, the more likely they are not a registered business, legally licensed, insured, or even experienced.

We’ve all heard of major horror stories at weddings about DJs. Most often, it’s not the established companies with reputations that flounder like that. It’s the cheap guys looking to make a quick buck.

You only get married once – well that’s usually the plan. Don’t let a wonderful day be ruined because you tried saving $200, which in the grand scheme of your wedding may be very little.

My suggestion is don’t hire a DJ for less than $550 for 4 hours. I’m in the business and know Halifax very well, but I now live in Toronto so this advice isn’t to promote me, my business, or anyone else. Just a buyer-be-aware!

  4. Kevin Tanner of ATMOSPHERE / ADVANCED SYSTEMS ENTERTAINMENT was very accommodating and great to work with for the most part ahead of the wedding – although when I sent the ceremony songs via dropbox almost a year before the wedding, I wasn’t told until a couple of weeks before that he didn’t actually download them and the links were now dead so I had to scramble to try to figure it all out which caused me considerable distress and grief — luckily he came to my hotel and picked up a jump drive with the songs on it to avert disaster but I still feel it could have all been avoided if he had told me from the outset that the songs had not been saved. Anyway things went downhill from there because unfortunately everything Kevin and I discussed must have been only haphazardly passed on to an alternate DJ for wedding day (with absolutely no prior warning that we weren’t in fact getting the DJ on wedding day that we dealt with all along) because the DJ we ended up with was not competent at all. He lacked personality, his transitions between songs were atrocious and he failed to work the microphone appropriately a number of times. In addition, one of the uplights he set up at the reception was set up on the floor in front of a ledge and a number of guests tripped on it before I moved it myself to the obviously safer place on the ledge. Come on, aren’t these extremely basic DJ 101 concepts?? To make matters worse, when I complained to the company about the above they didn’t even respond and charged me the full cost for service. In this day of competitive business options, I’d steer clear of this one and choose another!
