Here comes the sun

When it comes to true love, sometimes you just need a little patience. At least that was the case when Trimel Fidely followed good friend Liesel Castillo all the way here from Trinidad and Tobago for university. “By the end of our program, Trimel’s persistence and charm paid off and we were a couple,” says Liesel. Three years and a romantic midnight proposal later, things weren’t going quite so smoothly. Liesel’s father unexpectedly passed away and it looked like they wouldn’t be heading back to the Caribbean for their wedding like they originally planned. We “quickly realized that it was not going to work,” says Liesel. “So we pretty much planned our wedding twice.” Second time must be the charm, because the big day (which was also Liesel’s birthday) turned out even better than they could have imagined. “The day originally started off overcast and rainy,” she says, but “just after saying our vows, the skies cleared and the sun came streaming through the cathedral’s stained glass windows.” For them, the surreal moment symbolized a bright start to their lives. “I like to think that my father was looking over us and brought the sun out as his blessing to us,” says Liesel. After that, the rest of the day was a dream with an elegant and intimate celebration in white and grey that focussed on family and friends. “We threw out the rule book,” she says. “Looking back, I would not change anything.”
