Forget the Leafs. Halifax basketball fans will be breaking out the blue and white this week as the Rainmen kick off their pre-season games. To honour these towering men, we’re featuring a few bars where you can reach for a tall drink.
Niche
At a vertiginous 7’3″, centre Shagari Alleyne is the tallest player on the Rainmen. You can toast this implausibly tall man with one of Niche’s implausibly tall Tom Collins cocktails. Though to reach Alleyne-ian heights you may need to make it a double.

A martini joint isn’t what sports fans think of when going for post-game decompression, but it’s fun to match creatively named drinks to the players. For guard Devon Norris, whose favourite movie is The Departed, there’s the St. Patrick’s Day; for Alleyne there’s the Sunowner. As in, he’s so tall he could own the sun!

Dave Doolittle’s Sports Bar & Grill
Don’t want to head downtown to catch a Rainmen game? If you’re out in Dartmouth you can always watch the game on one of Doolittle’s two big-screen TVs. A pint just feels bigger when you’re watching a big TV.

Nestled just a few short blocks from the R-men’s home court at the Metro Centre, the Alehouse is within perfect walking distance for post-game drinks. And what better way to toast a basketball player than with a Long Island iced tea?
