Is it pewter? Speaking of the ECMA Fan Choice Award (were we?), feel free to fritter away an afternoon perusing the list of possibles and choosing wisely. After you have completed their very simple voting process (seriously, kudos), you may return to work. This award was open to all artists that applied and were eligible for any music award or showcase. Voting will close on Friday, February 27 at midnight (AT) and 12:30am (NT). You can also hold a powerful campaign for your chosen artist in Cornerbrook; the festival starts February 26 (and the fun continues to Mar 1). Check

Bad Brains and Idlers got that PMA
BB: Best band ever Newfoundland’s reggae-circus band Idlers are going to be recording their follow up album to 2007’s Corner with none other than Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer. In March, the 11-piece band heads to Woodstock, NY to record their new album Keep Out. Jenifer will produce and Phil Burnett will engineer. I think […]
Wordburglar serves up a piping hot comic
Behold! Halifax ex-pat Wordburglar doesn’t just say raps, he also writes a comic (co-created by True Story’s Mike Holmes). Which just so happens to be free online. Read Snakor’s Pizza and laugh the day away! Ogle art by Kody Peters and Strange Adventures’ Dave Howlett! For context, the comic concerns the exploits of “the former ruler of a sinister snake based society who now works at a pizza place.” Brand new pages are added every Wednesday. And of course you can find them on ye olde Facebooke too.

Cabin Fever Rockfest cancelled
Apparently, Blue Oyster Cult had something better to do A few months ago, I excitedly wrote about the Cabin Fever Rockfest, scheduled to take place May 8 and 9 at the Forum. I was not only anticipating the concert, but also the Millers, the tattoos and the cars. However, it was just announced that the whole kit and caboodle is cancelled and tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. Still, I think someone should find a way to bring Blue Oyster Cult, Foghat, White Lion, L.A. Guns, Enuff Z’nuff, Dokken, RATT’s Stephen Pearcy, Slaughter, Faster Pussycat and Bullet Boys
Monotonix are coming back to swing on more things
Work those triceps. I was out of the country when Monotonix came to Halifax for the Pop Explosion last year, and I get madder and madder every time someone tells me that was “the best show ever.” I guess someone in Monotonix decided they would lower my blood pressure and come back for a repeat […]

The Paranormal Formal brings the spirit of Valentine’s Day to the room
May I have this dance? It’s no secret that I love the otherworldly. Homemade séances, Ouija boards, psychics; I can’t get enough of it. The Khyber’s Paranormal Formal on Friday the 13th (10pm, $5) is like a lucid dream come true. With promises of palmistry, tea reading, games, prizes and solid jams from DJ Innez […]
Juno nominees announced
Hometown boys This week The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for The 2009 JUNO Awards. Which is fine, really. But here’s the part I have a problem with: “We’re pleased to inform you that the following artists from Halifax have received 2009 JUNO Award nominations: Plants and Animals, new group […]
