Saturday saw the first—hopefully of many—Women Making Waves festival, featuring a series of workshops, panels and networking opportunities, much of which took place at Mount Saint Vincent University.
The event was concluded on Sunday with a luncheon and awards ceremony at The Carleton, honouring outstanding contributions by four women in the field.
“Kudos to these four remarkable women, each of whom has made an indelible mark on the screen industry in her own unique and courageous way,” said Jan Miller, Chair of Women in Film & Television-Atlantic and the director of Strategic Partners, the international business conference of the Atlantic Film Festival.
The four 2011 Wave Award winners are Cat LeBlanc, a key coordinator of the Silver Waves Film Festival in Fredericton,
Jean Smith, executive director of the Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Co-operative for the past 15 years, filmmaker and videomaker, Halifax’s own Ann Verrall, and Cheryl Wagner, a former clown and puppeteer who is the creator and producer of the series Big Comfy Couch.
Congratulations to the award recipients and to the organizers of Women Making Waves.
