As Atlantic Fashion Week begins its annual sartorial shakeup, inspiration abounds with designers from across Nova Scotia and beyond bringing everything from statement-making streetwear to pop-art-y cocktail wear to the catwalk.

Art Pays Me
Duane Jones has been designing t-shirts that pack a socially conscious punch for years, and his collection at Friday’s showcase promises to be no different as it boasts the title Purpose. If he continues the rough-pencil-sketch style shown at the first solo Art Pays Me show from May 2018 (a show highlight saw an outline of Nova Scotia with the word UNCEDED scrawled overtop in all caps), you’ll want your credit card hot ’n’ ready.

Marie Webb’s got away with prints, sketching freeform patterns and dousing them in life-affirming, vivid hues. Her most recent works show the designer favouring super flowy silk numbers that will be as flattering as they are Iris Apfel fabulous. See more during the Friday showcase.

This Newfoundland label’s tagline “be happy in the clothing you wear” forecasts the bright palette designer MJ Couch favours—but doesn’t prepare you for the exciting, capital-F-Fashion that awaits as patterns are mixed with a Mindy Lahiri-level boldness. As Couch’s original prints riot, black mesh inserts slice the silhouette with razor-sharp precision, delivering a futuristic vibe last felt so fully when Peter Piletto’s iconic Target collaboration dropped in 2014.
