PEI loves its keyboards and I’m OK with that. I haven’t paid much
attention to its music scene, but as recent EPs and conversations with
island-born musicians have shown me, this is a mistake. There are
danceable bands over there, The Danks being no exception. Featuring
members of Two Hours Traffic, hitting somewhere between that band and
(ex-PEI) Windom Earle, Samples is an over-too-soon EP that
doesn’t disappoint, with peppy instrumentals and handclaps complimented
by the sort of sultry mopey vocals that make you feel like a
16-year-old standing lovelorn in front of the stage. Their full-length
follows this year.

  1. PEI’s music scene is a-flourish! Not only for it’s fabulous “danceable bands” but also for it’s offerings from all musical genres and non-genres! PEI and the East Coast in general are in the midst of a music, fashion, design, visual art….revival of sorts. Through collaboration and integration of arts and taking advantage of technologies ability to communicate and reach out to the world, PEI is building a template on how to form a dynamic and welcoming art’s community that still values it’s roots.
