Hell Hath No Fury is about all the Clipse could have done to get out from under Pharrell’s shadow. The Neptunes co-founder took the group under his wing early on, and while in hip-hop this kind of union has led to some disastrous results, in this case, the Clipse has proven its salt. This is a grinding collection of songs that sees The Neptunes’ dynamic production struggling to keep up with Pusha T and Malice’s attacking lyrical work. No track panders to any kind of commercial aspirations—it’s sparse, raw, thoughtful. While this may hurt the band financially, the fact that this disc has all the commercial potential of a Pere Ubu reunion is where its best qualities arise.
