If you only see one show from Live Art Dance’s stacked season, this is it. That’s sound advice coming directly from Paul Caskey, the executive producer behind Live Art, Atlantic Canada’s premier presenter of contemporary dance for 30 years and counting. “It’s the kind of show that’ll leave you stuck in your seat,” says Caskey of the production from Vancouver’s Kidd Pivot, a company he credits as one of the most important in the country. The Tempest Replica is a re-imagining of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, choreographed by the award-winning, highly sought-after Crystal Pite, and it promises to be a stunner. With themes of betrayal, vengeance and desire taking shape through larger than life shadows and dancers enveloped head-to-toe in bright-white, Pite’s work leads the audience through flurry of emotions that lie somewhere between reality and the various corners of her imagination. “Visually stunning, richly theatrical, incredibly danced,” says Caskey. “This will be one of the most important shows to come to Halifax this year. Period!”
