On Monday I received word that Halislam–the city’s spoken word team–took home the national championships for the second year in a row, leaving the competition to, well, eat their words. I heard from team member Andrew Abraham, who said that “there was no hometown advantage this time, so it clears up prior grumblings.” Last year the competition wa held here in Halifax. “We weren’t keeping track of the scores during the finals, and NONE of us expected to win; we thought we’d come third or fourth (and we barely scraped into the finals due to a weird scoring system). All of the teams were absolutely amazing and supportive of each other, it was a great experience!”
More to come from these guys soon.
