The Women Next Door are turning 20.

Sometimes it’s OK to use you outdoor voice indoors, like during a celebration. Or a double celebration. Sing and Shout! celebrates not only 20 years of The Women Next Door Choir belting out everything from peace songs to lullabies, but also the arrival of International Women’s Week. Joining the Women Next Door as they proudly venture into their 20s will be fellow feminist choirs the Wandering Menstruals (who are known for rewriting the lyrics to popular songs), the Persisters, The Women of Chorus and a special reunion from the Secret Furies. “It’s important to reflect on where we’ve come,” says Woman Next Door Kim Vance. “The point is to recognize how political choirs have been part of the women’s movement in last 20 years.” Really, there’s no one better suited to kick off International Women’s Week in Halifax than these small, yet incredibly mighty group of singers (and yellers)—lend your pipes to the party.

Sat Mar 3, Alderney Landing Theatre, 2 Ochterloney St, 6:30pm, $16.50
