During Puffy’s NYC shooting trial in 1999, Shyne split his time between the courtoom and the studio, working on his second album. The final touches came after Shyne was jailed (for 10 years). One of the standout tracks, “For The Record,” was recorded via answering machine from his cell. Shyne’s slow, drawn-out pace paints a bleak account of life behind bars. Godfather Buried Alive is less about glamourizing thug life than the loss of life associated with it. And how will he record a follow-up?
