So you obvs already know about the Minks CD release tonight at Gus’—save room for cupcakes, my dudes, although Matt Charlton has already claimed he is going to win—and you’ve got your sleeping bag all rolled up for the Neil Young on-sale tomorrow, but what to do after that?
First off, if you are one of those summery types, it would behoove you to head down to the waterfront for the first decent Friday in a while to catch al fresco’s second-to-last screening, Moulin Rouge, which has a number of connections to this column. It stars Nicole Kidman, whose hubby will be making life annoying next weekend; Kidman and Ewan McGregor duet on “My Song” by Hali-bound Elton John; it’s a musical being shown locally and it is fucking great. A little long, but such is the deal when you are Spectacular Spectacular. The fabulosity goes down at 9, five bucks gets you in.
“Toronto’s premiere deep funk house band,” King Sunshine, keeps it in the low end tonight at the Seahorse, and you might as well keep your dancin’ shoes out for Windom Earle at Gus’, with our new favourite live act The Gideons, Hotshotrobot offshoot Murder Sounds and, for its last show ever, Rockstorm.
And finally, we would be remiss in not reminding you of the appearance of one David Cassidy this weekend at Casino Nova Scotia. He will appear Friday and Saturday at 8pm in the Schooner Room and tickets are $59. Over in Upper Sackville you can throw down CanCon dino-rock style at Weir Field on Saturday at a show headlined by Haywire (did you know they’re from PEI? We just learned!) and Chilliwack. Tickets are $30. Whatcha gonna do when they’re gone? Kick yourself, that’s what!
