Brooke Miller
You Can See Everything
Hickory
A few years after playing Halifax, Prince Edward Islander Brooke Miller moved to Ontario and married one of the finest pickers in the country, Don Ross. Hubby’s playing and production grant this record some extra sparkle. An ear-opener is the quality of Miller’s songs and her charismatic performance. Predominantly acoustic, the album receives a welcome jolt from the organ and Ross’ assertive Dobro. Upping the tempo more is Miller’s unique vocal phrasing, and on “Country From the Dome Car,” a future CBC favourite, she plays to national pride and train-party vibe with equal fervour. “There You Are” is the tender, layered song, balancing the spunk.
