It is not about being superior as much as it is about being grammatically correct. Spelling things out phonetically may provide nice shortcuts when text messenging, but it is not appropriate for everyday use. Sure, languages change and evolve, but it is going to be a while before u can rite like dis on ur resume. So if you want to be taken seriously, learn to conform. Rage against the grammar machine all you want, just realize how you will be perceived if you do.
Hey, I’m with Miles on that!!
Yep I have to agree with Miles on this one…
I agree with Miles as well speaking it everyday makes you seem eliterate
All of the replies hit the truth, and now here’s the not so nice version: Grow the fuck up! I would love to be a fly on the wall to see you in a job interview talking like such a baby. Have a little respect for yourself and get a fucking life!!!
Is it just me or does anyone else think this is just LOL, again.
it is LOL and your right we didnt perfect the english lang for years to have people turn around and talk like that it makes you sound uneducated.
I really, really enjoy the fact that each and every one of the replies deriding the original poster’s language contains at least one spelling or grammatical error. Several of you appear quite “eliterate” (sic) when “your” (sic) “messenging” (sic) in your replies. *Giggle*
Point well taken 🙂 I tried especially hard to proof my comment before posting to avoid just this situation, but pobody’s nerfect. But I think my point still stands. The density of typographical errors in the replies is much less than the original post and we all were able to easily understand what each one was saying. Also, there are some clear stylistic differences between the commenters and the original poster. I also wasn’t deriding the poster, just clarifying that people who use more formal and accepted language are not being superior, they are just trying to communicate effectively with their target audience (each other). You can use as many colloquialisms as you want, just be aware that they have their place and might not always be well received. Finally, I think NMH was right and it was LOL just fucking with everyone again.
I was just having fun; no worries. I didn’t realize “LOL” was a person in this context. I thought NMH was saying the whole series of posts was Laugh Out Loud funny, possibly for the same reason I thought so…
My biggest issue with this is that speaking with “street slang” is one thing. But spelling with it? It is illegible at best, and laughable at most.
