The best lists of the year always include the same groups of people. Where is the diversity? What does a person have to do in order to get recognized in some context? Work for the media? Or “date” someone who does? —Tired of the sheep mentality

Do you mean like “the top 10 best dressed men of 2013!!” is there no diversity cause they are all men? maybe because they are all men just from north american culture? or no former women who are now men? OR maybe your trampire halloween costume wasn’t picked in a local news paper contest and you wanna know wether you woulda got first prize if you were dating a judge? you gotta narrow that bitch down and provide an example cause I gots no idea what lists you are referring to 🙁

Maybe you’re not on any ‘best of’ lists (because we know OB didn’t make whatever stupid list no one cares about, anyway) because you aren’t the best?
Just because you think you’re awesome and just because your friends and family say you are, doesn’t mean you don’t suck ass.

Here is the problem op. If the people you respect identified the best, you’d no longer respect them. You are not too smart for the masses op, you’re just a contrarian. You root for the guy nobody else roots for because it makes you stand out. That’s all. Don’t mistake your desperate, contrarian attention seeking for skills in quality control.
Absolutely diversity is an issue in mainstream media. But if you were as scornful of the mainstream as you say you are, you’d avoid it and stop talking about it so much. My word has nothing to do with any of that nonsense and as a result, I have nothing to complain about because I tend to avoid it unless something really nice comes along. In which case i appreciate it.
So there are no fat chicks popular in mainstream media. Get over it.

Maybe I have a skewed idea of what those lists are, but, um, aren’t they supposed to be the “best of” various things? If someone (or some business) is the best, until some other business opens or there is some shift in the economy, wouldn’t that place or person STAY the best? If you want diversity in a “best of” list, do something that can compete. Popular places are only popular until the next great thing comes along. No one’s going to vote for a shitty restaurant when there is an awesome one just for a little diversity.
Those kind of lists are entirely subjective and not really worth worrying about, so I don’t. You should do the same, OP.

Why does anyone even bother with the drivel that is ‘best of’ it’s an exercise in futility.
Anyone can easily sway an opinion pole to their wish list of ‘best’ simply by limiting those in the running. Or you could limit the response to a small number of participants. Put the pole out to users at a choice selection of locations etc.
So OB instead of paying any attention to what some others say is the best & maybe you just try deciding for yourself .
