Specifically to the lady with the pink tank top driving a newer grey Honda car, probably a civic, wearing sunglasses with brown hair i believe, possibly shoulder length:

This happened at the Elmsdale on ramp heading towards HRM last Saturday …when you are driving in the slow lane and you are about to go by an on-ramp where cars are merging onto the highway and need to merge into the slow lane that you occupy, it is courteous and proper driving etiquette to check the fast lane and if you have room to MOVE THE FUCK OVER THERE!!!

…By not moving you may cause the merging vehicle to have to slow down or even stop and wait for your rude ass to mosy on by, but did you think of the potential danger you are putting the cars behind you in when the merging car tries to get on the highway from slow or no speed and trying to judge the speed of the cars that are coming??… it’s not as easy as when you are driving at higher speed believe it or not… If I or anyone else is merging onto the highway and if you have room to move over you MOVE… YOU SIMPLY SHOULD NOT FUCKING BE THERE WHEN I GET TO THE SLOW LANE!!!!

…I know once in a while we forget or are boxed in or there is a fast approaching car behind you that just moved into the fast lane and to move over at that time would cause an issue for you and/or them and I suppose there is the odd on ramp that is quite short or offers less visibility from the highway (but most certainly don’t fall into that category)… I get that …but there were no other cars in sight in the fast lane and you just seemed like an oblivious type of person so my gut says you just don’t have a clue and think you own the road…

So after a few immature commenters have their fun with a “get over it OP” or a “douche” or a claim that they don’t have to legally move so why would they, I hope you and the other ignorant drivers read this and get a wake up call. At the very least slow down a bit or speed up to make room.—Gave you the Finger from my Chev s10

  1. It’s your duty as merging traffic to pick your spot, and adjust your speed accordingly to get there.

  2. Some people are just stupid when they drive. I agree with the OP….the pinky was being inconsiderate of merging traffic.

  3. If there were no other cars in sight then slow down until she passes and merge. It is your responsibility to make sure it is safe before merging onto the highway.

When I drive I don’t move over, why should I increase my risk by doing 2 unnecessary lane changes?

I also don’t hug the centre line when stopped at a red light with one lane so cars can sneek by for a right turn. It’s illegal if a second lane isn’t marked and I wouldn’t help them.

Oh and if you are riding my ass I’ll slow down even more. Better to be rear ended at a slower speed.

  4. Your risk? Of what, doing something considerate on the road for a change rather than being a fucking douche? The OP is right, if you can, move the fuck over.

  5. I had the same issue on Sunday heading down to Mahone Bay. I was entering the highway from Timberlea when some little wankstain in a Honda civic, yes, yes the souped up kind where the new loud muffler costs more than the fucking car, and every time it gets a full tank of gas it doubles in value. Do you think the stunned fuck would pull over? Nope – the best part of him ran down his fathers leg at conception.

  6. i see so many alleged drivers, who don’t even look around. they have a death grip on the steering wheel and have that i am going to poop my pants look. please folks if you’re that freaked out don’t drive

  7. Drivers in NS don’t know how to merge. It’s your responsibility to judge the other cars’ speeds and figure out when you’ll be able to get over.

  8. I got yelled at me when I didn’t change lanes to allow a merging vehicle in on a highway. Since then, I do my best to change lanes when I can. But if I can’t change lanes, don’t flip a bird at me, because that’s mean and I might cry.

  9. I agree with the OP.”jennier”… When in Rome. “pobodys nerfect”, strikes 1, 2, and 3 all in one comment. You dont belong in this province and you shouldnt even be behind the wheel. GTFO. “steve DT” yes technically that is ones “duty”, and sometimes thats easy enough to adjust speed and what not, but I think what the OP is getting at is that here in NS one often shouldnt have to even worry about that as the person in the slow lane will usually have plenty of room to move over and allow traffic to merge on at a reasonable speed if they have any concept of courtesy. Its not always about “well thats his responsibility, not mine”. Its often easiest and safest for the person currently in the slow lane to simply move left for a few seconds then it is for the merging traffic to judge speed, check a larger area for oncoming, potentially cause an issue or atleast an inconvenience to cars farther back in the slow lane or behind them on the ramp. Some other provinces tend to have more lanes to use, longer ramps, better kept highway landscape to maximize visibility, and of course just more of a hustle and bustle mentality. Those places have drivers used to having to sit there and twiddle their thumbs waiting for some courteous driver to let them onto the highway, but this is NS. Here we try to be helpful and courteous when driving whenever possible. Whenever reasonably safe to be so, which is more often than not as our highways arent bumper to bumper with commuters usually. I used to cummute from Truro to Amherst all the time and used to see this once in a while. Quite often it was an old lady or an Ontario plate.

  10. Here’s the thing though…there’s no “slow lane” or “fast lane”. The speed limit in both lanes happens to be exactly the same. Drivers who choose to travel above the speed limit have a left lane to pass traffic that *should* be travelling at the posted speed limit. (I hate getting caught behind people doing <100 on the highway.)

If you pay attention to highway signs most of them tell you to stay in the right lane (what you are calling the slow lane) except to pass.

But yeah, people need to learn how to merge properly.

  11. And if the people on the “fast lane” were going at a reasonable speed (like maybe within 10km/h above the speed limit) it would be easier for the people on the “slow lane” to change lanes to let merging vehicles in. But some are going way faster…it is scary on highways around Halifax I must say. I am scared of the spot just before the Micmac mall exit…people change 3-4 lanes without signal, going nowhere near the posted speed limit. Reminds me of that century old game “invaders”.
