To the dumb ass’s who responded to my bitch about where is the military: First with reserves we have over 100,000 troops so that takes care of you. Next all military members must pass fire fighting training,so in answer to this guy they would use the equipment all ready there to let those who have been going 23 hours a day have a break,done with you. Next yes we would feed them just as we are feeding them here so no cost,transporting them would be done with military aircraft cost would be fuel only as we own the aircraft. So the cost to get there and help would be saved from the savings of $ being lost to the stoppage of work being done and the cost of all those people being on employment insurance. With Reserves, we may have in excess of 100,000 military members, Doesn’t make them troops. Like most Western militaries we have at least a dozen support personnel for every combat soldier. That 100, 000 includes clerks, cooks , crews of naval vessels, airframe techs, fart catchers at NDHQ., etc. Can’t send all 100,000 now can we? Which brings up the second logistical point, the fucking community was being evacuated – with a limited number of points of egress, including a small municipal airport. A large scale deployment would have seriously hampered the evac efforts. Then there’s the footprint that a massive influx of personnel would have. Where do you put them, in a situation that was changing hourly. What’s the exit strategy if things turn pear shaped. Or is your point that “We’re paying them; we can immolate them, if necessary.” Then there’s your truly moronic “We’re feeding them” argument . You do realize that other than junior ranks living in barracks, most CF members live in either base housing, or private homes. Unless deployed or on exercise they feed themselves. Not saying that we couldn’t have sent more military than we did. Me Old Dad fought many a forest fire as a serving member. But, your original argument was so full of overblown hyperbolic baked wind, and so is your, oh so expertly written riposte, that your credibility is non-existent.

Again, think before you spout off. There are maybe 68,00 regular force members and about 27,000 reserve member for a grand total of about 95,000 of all ranks. So you expect that they drain all bases of all members, suspend all present missions, bring back ships, etc, etc, to fight a forest fire. Further, you think we own enough transport aircraft to take them to Fort Mac in a timely fashion and enough food in storage to feed everyone. BTW, unless you live on base or are on a mission, the CF does not feed you, you are responsible to feed yourself. Yes OB, you are a complete idiot

I don’t remember much of basic, so I hope I don’t get called up (hey OP, there’s another untapped resource: the supplemental reserve, don’t forget about us, lol) but what I do remember about our training for ‘fighting fires’ was how a fire extinguisher works and… oh wait, that’s all of it.
