To a certain coffee place: Listen, I’d love to support you guys. You have vegetarian food and you’re local. And we should have more places like you nearby. But your service is TERRIBLE. Somehow you manage to have as many servers behind the counter as anywhere else, and yet they take five times as long. (Seriously: I’ve waited 10 minutes with three people in line.)
This is because they seem completely stoned! I get it: they’re too cool for school. At the big mermaid down the street, though, they’re amazingly friendly and totally quick. So c’mon: hire some competent baristas (and reinstate the coffee express line)! —Thwarted Locavore

doesn’t anyone make coffee at home? is that why people are so cranky – they get up, read email, get dressed, drive in PUBLIC before they get a cup of coffee?
and why would anyone prefer to PAY more than one dollar for a cup of coffee that would cost under 25 cents to make at home? afternoon/evening coffee ‘experiences’ are totally different. environment, the whole barista thing, lingering. yadayada. done it myself on ‘the drive’ (except the real coffee shops had old italian guys making the coffee). but morning coffee? ewwwwwwwwwwwww, if you have to have coffee or you’re cranky, then have it right away. crap, in hotels i get it delivered in a pot at wakeup time. no way i am going to inflict my sorry ass on random strangers in the halls or elevator getting to the restaurant.
I always make myself a cuppa to go at home but then I leave it next to the door in my rush to get out the door and grab the bus 🙁 It just gets lost in the key/bus pass shuffle!
i have said this countless times before o.p.,the best coffee and service you will ever find, is right at home, done by yourself. no wait times, great server?, and the coffee made just to your specs.
I love the smell when you grind the beans.
THe great smell of perking it …all that before you get to drink it IMO is as good as the cup of coffee itself !
Hah, I do the same thing, Jgoreham. Many ‘a time I’ve been late to work because I find coffee too alluring, I must go back for it ;D. Like, I actually make the choice that I may miss my usual bus and have to take the 80 instead. Dats looove.
I use a 30 year old Sunbeam perk,it makes a great cup of coffee.
I make the best coffee (for me), you can too OB…oh, it takes 10 mnutes 🙁

Lolz, sorry to burst your bubble…been making bodum aka french press coffee for a few years now, long before the hipsters invented it.
And I’ll have you know, I don’t have any skinny pants, and my scarf is black and I only wear it when I’m cold….so there…phhhbbt 😉
t’wasn’t moi that started the hipster finger pointing. was some dude here. besides, i’ve been using one since the 80’s. (when did hipsteritus start? )
don’t make that face or it might freeze that way.
pbbttttt back at ya
I just can’t make coffee as good as the local coffee shop. My first cupatheday is exceedingly important. I leave it in the hands of professionals.
