I try to obey traffic rules. I’ve got two small children and expect the same courtesy from all motorists. I never intentionally speed; I wish my car would automatically adjust the speed for me based on what the posted limit was.

I was on my way home, excited to see my wife and kids after a long shift, merging onto the Bedford Highway, you pulled me over for doing 80, treated me like a criminal and gave me a $400 ticket. Thanks. Pull over the family sedan with carseats in the back. Talk about fairness and justice while handing me a fine like that when my household income of $30k feeds four mouths? Fuck you, cop! How dare you treat me like I raped someone! Thanks for setting up radar in an area with an ambiguous speed limit, I’m sure you stopped many criminals that night.

Oh and a $400 speeding ticket? Really! A friend of mine was caught drinking, in a mall parking lot, in the front seat of his car, and the fine was only $300! Bit of a cash grab, no?
I hope you’re enjoying your newfound sense of authority as a cop. Douchenozzle. —Much Angry Dad

  1. I feel for you but there’s very little lea-way in this kind of situation.. you were going 30 over the limit, I presume. I don’t think there’s an ambigious speed limit… and I think you may want to drive a wee bit more carefully with your two kids in the back.

  2. So *because* you have kids and a crappy paying job, you should be allowed to speed? Sorry dude, even us childless ones must obey the traffic signs, irregardless of our income and status. Suck it up and drive slower next time.

  3. I bet he targeted you specifically because of your $30k salary. I mean, you have it written all over your face and your car, right?

  4. This is the worst bitch ever.

So if you drive a family sedan with car seats you are allowed to speed?

Or if your household income is 30k you’re allowed to speed?

“How dare you treat me like I raped someone!”
At least most rape victims live. Driving at unsafe speeds kills.

“Thanks for setting up radar in an area with an ambiguous speed limit”
What’s ambiguous about a sign posting the limit?

“I’m sure you stopped many criminals that night.”
Well speeding is an offense, and he did make the roads safer. I bet you didn’t speed home.

“Oh and a $400 speeding ticket?”
He doesn’t set the fine amount.

  5. Dude, if you are speeding in what is an obvious family van that carries children, don’t you think that would be a pretty good reason for a cop to pull you over..you know, so that you don’t kill your kids speeding?

    But maybe that’s just me.

  6. “I never intentionally speed”: But, you admit you speed.

“I wish my car would automatically adjust the speed for me based on what the posted limit was.”: You don’t want to take responsibility for your actions.

“you pulled me over for doing 80, treated me like a criminal and gave me a $400 ticket”: While your actions may not be criminal within the definition of the word, you did break the law, and were punished civilly with a fine as opposed to a record. It goes back to the old adage: If you do the crime, you do the time.

“Pull over the family sedan with carseats in the back”: What the hell does that have to do with anything? Just because of this you deserve special treatment? I fucking hate when parents use this as their ‘I deserve better treatment card’.

“handing me a fine like that when my household income of $30k”: So, fines should be on a sliding scale based on income? Should I carry around my T4 from last year to prove my income in case I get pulled over.

“Thanks for setting up radar in an area with an ambiguous speed limit”: If you don’t know the limit on the Bedford Hwy, do 50. I don’t know of any section of that road that is above 70. By the amount of your fine, it sounds like you were in a 50 zone.

“Oh and a $400 speeding ticket?”: It’s not like the cop arbitrarily decides the amount of the ticket.

You, sir, are got caught doing wrong and like lots of other people are trying to blame others. Just suck it up, pay the fine and if you don’t want another, don’t speed anymore.

    It’s quite simple, really.

  7. And the OB would have been very happy if his car had been stolen and a cop stopped for speeding and recovered it, rather than let it speed without stopping it because it had car seats in it. I don’t think there is a clause in the Highway Traffic Act which states a car with car seats is exempt from speed limits.

  8. Typical of your generation – anyone/everyone else’s fault – fuck you crybaby. Maybe you should be in the child seat?

  9. I wish the police would target more Minivan-driving Moms. Those cougars are dangerous on the roads on the way to hockey practice.

  10. I’m so putting a car seat in the back of my car so I never get a ticket! Apparently that will make me above the law.
    Douche.

  11. 5 will get you 10 that if you were a young babe with big tits and a smile your ticket would have mysteriously been reduced to a friendly warning; cops have WAY too much digression

  12. that’s why most cars have a thing called cruise control installed on them now. just set it for maximum speed you want to drive, push button, and you are good to go.a friend uses his in his city driving all the time, when he stops or slows for any reason, it shuts off, but starts as soon as he pushes the button on the lever.saves him a lot of tickets, as he is a lead foot driver, like me.

  13. Hey Douche, if the speed limit is ‘ambiguous’ maybe you should retake drivers ed or submit yourself to a re-testing for your drivers license, just for kicks.

  14. What the hell is an ambiguous speed limit? Ambiguous? I must have missed that one during driver training! Who ever told you that speed limits were flexible? Were your kids in the car while you were giving them such an illustrious example to follow?

Your anger is grossly misdirected. You need to be angry at yourself for speeding in the first place. This may come as a shock to you but you are no more or no less important than anyone else on the road who is driving home after work. The speed limits are there for everyone to obey, and not shown disregard by those who think they are above it all. Your choice of friends is also poorly thought out. Drinking and driving may seem like fun, until a tragedy occurs, not unlike speeding.

  15. Ohhh, now you’ve done it. *watches the “You do the crime, you pay the fine* people line up and rev up their holier than thou responses.

  16. I’m not preaching holier than thou. I’m not innocent when it comes to speeding. Most people speed (even if it is only five over the limit, it is speeding), but most don’t get caught.

I am just saying don’t try to blame others for your mistake. I’ve received speeding tickets before and whose fault was that? Mine. I don’t go blaming others, or trying to make up excuses for why I should not have been given a ticket.

  17. Yeah, I agree…anyone who can jizz some sperm into a womans wide open vag should not be allowed to get a speeding ticket.

Are your children old enough to know that you’re a loser yet? Jeez, you can’t get a good enough job to afford to feed your kids and now you break the law and basically take $400 that could have been spent on groceries for the little tykes and have to pay a fine because you broke the law.

Hope you weren’t too excited to see the wife…don’t want to add another mouth to feed on top of the one’s you can’t afford now.

  18. “”What the hell is an ambiguous speed limit? Ambiguous? “”

Nova scotia is filled with these. It’s when the limit changes arbitrarily from 80-50-70-60-90 along the SAME road – depending on the pressure from local businesses that lobby for lower speeds past their shops…lower speeds= more people sudden;y choosing to stop. If you miss ONE speed change, you’re fucked…nothing in the geography or the road itself will indicate that the speed limit should be diffrent. The number 3 is a prime example. The “limits” are set arbitrarily.

Also, when you merge onto a road that is 90, from one that is 50…at what point are you allowed to speed up? There are many examples of when the limit is not clear to drivers…thus the OP’s use of “ambiguos” I expect. IF the decrease in the limit was clearly marked and obvious, do you think they’d put a radar trap there, lol?

It amazes me the naiveté of people here…most are clearly inexpereienced with the reality of cash-grabbing by police forces…and it shows!

Furthermore…$400? that’s ridiculous…I would fight this with a traffic lawyer, they have a pretty good record, more than half of all tickets can be beaten.

As a professional driver I fight ALL tickets, and you should as well…As we are seeing more and more, the police are NOT infalible, and neither is their MO, attitude and equipment…

  19. “”…anyone who can jizz some sperm into a womans wide open vag “

    Eww.

You’ve just put me right off my tea with that one.

  20. Yeah, that was last week’s rental Penske…
…Just stepped into a new (to me) Peterbilt 387!

Oh my, room to swing a dead cat…

  21. How can anybody feel for this OB? He broke the speed law, got caught and has to pay the price for his own fuck up. Nobody gives a rats ass that you have kids, dude. If anything, OB should be following the law to set an example for his kids who will grow up feeling entitled to break laws like their dumbass father.

OB you did a putrid job of trying to garner ‘public support’ by complaining about something that is your own fault, using your kids as an excuse (maybe time to get a vasectomy), complaining about your cheap income (if it’s not enough, get a better job), and blaming the police for doing their job.

I’m not big on cops but whenever I’ve been pulled over I accepted the consequences and paid my fines if any. Also, what kind of mature parent uses childish terms like ‘douchenozzle’? I feel for your kids.

  22. OP, I might have sympathy for you if it weren’t for the fact that THERE ARE NO 80 ZONES ON THE BEDFORD HIGHWAY! Maybe you saw the “80 Sackville” and confused it for a speed limit sign. The flow from the overpass onwards now is 50-60-50-60-70-50, and reasonably well spaced out. Not a cash grab.

Your error, your bill. Suck it up captain rush-rush

  23. The fact that OP thought posting a bitch like this wouldn’t get his ass raked over the coals and wouldn’t end up looking like a complete idiot doesn’t say much for his intelligence.

Then again, any idiot can procreate.

You broke the law, dumbass. Take some responsibility for your actions! This is exactly the same assfuck who ends up producing the kind of kids who go to libraries and annoy the other patrons like the bitcher above writes about.

    Your wife should’ve swallowed.

Also: yes I am in a bad mood today.

  24. How is $400 an appropiate fine? Is it a school zone? If not, this is excessive.

    “”50-60-50-60-70-50″‘

    Uh huh

  25. Why should it matter if it’s a school zone? If you kill someone by driving into them at a high speed, does it really matter the age?

  26. “Anyone who strictly adheres to the law will never be justified by it”. Mark something or other.

Pretty profound considering how people take that book so seriously.

I wonder how taking this guys next 2 months groceries will make me safer. I doubt him being over stressed and desperate will make any of us safer. Punishment should fit the crime and 400 bucks means different things to different people.

I think thats why the older cops practice the art of scaring the shit out of you and then letting you off with a warning once they run your plates and see who you are.

  27. The reason the fine was so high is due to the percentage the OP was over the speed limit. Tickets start at a base rate for __% over and have a correlating increase based on posted speed v. actual speed.

Given that the OP was 62.5% over the posted speed, he’s lucky he did not get charged with dangerous driving or lose his license for a week (20kph over the limit makes him a candidate for a week of walking).

OP, make arrangements with the DoJ to pay your fine in installments and pay it so you don’t fuck up your license or plate renewals. And FFS drive slower, your kids will be better served by a father who makes it home at the end of the day instead of the morgue or jail.

  28. You’re completely right, Three. My dad got a speeding ticket when he was coming off the 102 onto Bayers Road — that’s a hot spot for cops with radar guns, just so everyone knows. I don’t think his fine was $400 — I think it was around $200 or something. He was doing 60 or something and the limit is 50. He went to the court appearance and got an extension and paid it in installments, and I’ll tell you one thing — as annoying as it *is* to go 50 when coming onto Bayers Rd, he does it every single time (he’s actually been flipped off by people for doing so too!) because paying $200 in fines isn’t his idea of a good time. Maybe you’ll think twice about doing 80 in a 50 zone, next time, OP.

Thing *is*, the province and its municipalities are strapped for funds these days, and speeding fines are a great way to increase the cash flow. People tend to take the speed limits for granted these days and get all pissy when they get called out for breaking the law. A lot of drivers on 100 series highways forget that we’re not driving on the German autobahn.

  29. “”Why should it matter if it’s a school zone? If you kill someone by driving into them at a high speed, does it really matter the age?””

It has nothing to do with “age”. It’s to do with feral children running out in front of your car because they’re too stupid to look both ways…

  30. bmf, are you watching video while you’re driving? I see your smokes in front of you and, what appears to be, an active video screen in the bottom center of your windscreen.

  31. It’s most likely a GPS, that’s where mine is placed when I travel. I’d hate to think it was anything else, when pulling that kind of tonnage or no tonnage.

Video players are great in the back, it keep those feral kids occupied for hours.

  32. I talked to my mom tonight and she told me my dad’s speeding ticket was $152, so OP must have been charged with reckless driving or something to get a $400 fine.

  33. “”bmf, are you watching video while you’re driving?”

PussnBoots is correct, it’s a GPS…although I have noticed that the new generation of GPS units are capable of playing multimedia, mpegs and jpegs…

  34. Just know where and how to look out for the traffic cops next time! They’re always hanging out at a few particular areas most people now know to look out for. In other areas, you can speed your little heart out and rarely risk getting caught.

Just be thankful we don’t have speed cameras and undercover traffic cops here like they do in other parts of the world. They don’t even stop you, they just send you a nice little fine in the mail. That innocent-looking parked car on the side of the road could very well be a cop waiting for you with a speed gun.

Oh, I know, speed limits are there for a reason, don’t speed, blah blah blah, but seriously, some speed limits are stupidly low and just traps for cops to generate more revenue. I find that most speed limits are set about 10 – 30 km/hr lower than the speed you could still safely travel. Speed limits on our divided 100 series highways, for example, could easily go up to 140 km/hr. Yes, there are speed limits of 140 km/hr in other countries. Australia, for example.

Not that I speed. Nope, never ever! I admit to nothing!
