Just want to say to the absolutely ignorant douchebag students I spend my day at my call center job talking to: You too will find as much luck as I have with my honours degree and two majors as I have, don’t ever call me and question my education because I answer the phones, drive your cab, pour your coffee, or serve your food. Respect your elders, because, yes, you will be filling these shoes when you are all done your degree, as we all are now. —DS

  1. Congrats on your honours degrees and two major.s Pity you didn’t know any better and chose two that aren’t marketable. Now get back to work and answer that phone, that’s all you can do.

  2. Ignore sebastard.

It always makes me laugh when students think they’re so much better than people doing jobs servicing them, when OH HAY, chances are they won’t be able to find a job after they graduate, either. Especially people who take BAs and don’t do anything else with it.

Jokes on them, OP. Don’t worry, they’ll get theirs. 🙂

  3. Plan much? Apparently not the requirements in the job market….. ARTS is a foundation…..now start building something on top of that……..and not Education!

A BA is what one would take to get an overview of the offerings so they can get a feel for their niche and pursue a higher education (or second degree in an academic field)………what did you and your $$$$$ think would happen after graduation? Yep, Call Centre Baby!

  4. There are lots of people with masters degrees who work in call centres.

The job market is insanely rough these days, even for those of us with education in professional fields. I talked to a bunch of students last week at work who are doing the same degree I am. They all think there are fabulous opportunities out there upon graduation.

AHAHAHAHA. I didn’t MEAN to burst their bubble, but you should’ve seen the look on some of their faces when I said “yeah, there are no jobs out there in *insert what PK did here*”

Do some fucking research, kiddies! I sure wish I had (because I would’ve done a fucking french certificate).

  5. That’s what I hate about a lot of students, PK. About society in general really, we’re brainwashed into believing pretty much the exact opposite of the truth, and look at people who actually know better like they’re crazy.

I work in a call centre environment. It’s a not a call centre, it’s an office with a small department that takes phone calls. But still there are people here with degrees that are doing the same thing I’m doing and getting paid less, or the same amount.

One reason I’m in no rush to pay some school thousands to “educate” me.

  6. I just think it’s hilarious how students think they’re SOOOO much better than the people they deal with in jobs such as call centres, secretarial positions, admin positions, people serving them in coffee shops and restaurants, etc… when it’s very likely that these people are more educated than they are, and the fact is that there’s a really REALLY good chance that they might end up doing that themselves.

Then THEY can deal with the snot nosed students who come after them.

EVERYONE and their dog has a university degree these days. It doesn’t make you special that you’re going to university. There is virtually no guaranteed jobs these days with a degree, so I really don’t see why these people think their shit doesn’t stink.

  7. not quite correct, OP. The smart ones will move to a province where there’s work. Why didn’t you go? Are you really certain that every place in Canada that pays well, just happens to suck more than Halifax?

  8. I just think it’s hilarious how service workers with some level of education think they’re SOOOO much better than the people they deal with in jobs such as call centres, secretarial positions, admin positions, people they serve in coffee shops and restaurants, etc… when it’s very likely that these people are as educated as they are going to be, and the fact is that there’s a really REALLY good chance that they might end up convincing themselves that this entitles them to something.

Then THEY can deal with the snot nosed students who come after them.

EVERYONE and their dog has a university degree these days. It doesn’t make you special that you’ve gone to university. There is virtually no guaranteed jobs these days with a degree, so I really don’t see why these people think their shit doesn’t stink.

    See what i did there?

  9. What about the people who no education who think their shit don’t stink? Having a degree means the graduate has actually accomplished something that takes more effort than drinking Olands and listening to dub step.

  10. I agree with donarious.

It’s usually those who have no education past high school or even some useless program at NSCC (not ALL programs at NSCC are useless, but there are some that are crappppp) or Compu College or Success College (lolz) that are the first to criticize those of us with [multiple] university degrees.

I’d rather be educated and unemployed than uneducated any day of the week. When I think of myself before my two degrees and certificate and compare it to now, I really shudder at the thought of not being an educated individual. There are smart people out there, and maybe I’m an academic snob, but there’s really no comparison between those educated and those who aren’t. My BA was worth every penny.

People who are uneducated just don’t… get it. And it’s not always about the money either. Like I said, I’d rather make 5 bucks an hour and have my degrees than make 50 an hour and not have them.

  11. Pk, when i have time, im going to go back and read all your ‘hard done by’ rants with this new found knowledge that you have 2 degrees and a willingness to work 5 bucks and hour…..this isnt going to bode well for you.
    🙂

  12. When you are unstacking a 5 foot pallet of “The Da Vinci Code 2; Electic Boogaloo”, it isn’t sufficient to know that Dan Brown chomps the rusty bar. You have to know why he chomps the rusty bar. God Bless my B.A.

  13. “What have they acomplished?”

It takes a bit of effort and commitment to earn a three or four year bachelors degree or the one or two year masters. The people who don’t think earning a degree is an accomplishment are the ones who tend to not have any education themselves. To them, smoking 5g of pot in one day is somehow a major achievement.

  14. You’re not one of those assholes who think they’re hot shit while doing nothing, Hugo. I’ll give you an example of that ilk: local DJs. Many don’t have anything past high school but will be the first to shit on me (a fellow DJ) for choosing university and saying an education is a waste. They’ll also claim that university just brain washes people while they live free.

They don’t bother with technical studies, trades, culinary, military – anything. They’re the folks who think that smoking the 5g of dope in one day is some type of accomplishment that should go on a resume.

  15. After I turned off my computer last night, I realized that I should have included “jk” or “not”.

I know the attitude that you’re speaking of…”If I don’t already have it, it’s usless and beneath my greatness…”

Frig, that’s sounds kinda familiar, doesn’t it 😉
