I am a non smoker but this whole idea that a restaurant patron cannot have a smoke after dinner with a coffee or digestivo on the patio is utterly ridiculous. In Europe they got it right. Can’t smoke in a park? What! But it is okay to drive a car and idle in traffic? Get outta here!
What about you nut cases that think fur is cruel? But assassinating millions of animals everyday to feed ourselves is not? How do you think we survived as a species? Yup, by wearing fur.
Check your heads kids. You are a problem. —MK

I’m sorry, but smelling smoke while eating’d make a lot of us non smokers wanna vomit.
Oh wait… I’m NOT sorry.
Cigarettes are toxic to those who inhale the smoke, you’re suggesting that because cars also emit a noxious fume, we should allow smoking wherever. Two wrongs equal a right? No, I don’t think so.
Fur is unnecessary today, we can manufacture equal products without the intentional slaughter of mink, foxes etc. Yes, we needed fur to survive the last ice age but I believe that ended 10,000+ y.o.
Yeaaah! OP just got owned by troodon4
Uggg every single god damn time I have been to a restaurant on a patio this summer, I am treated to the constant, pleasant aroma of the jackasses that stand just inches from the patio with their cigarettes lit (because wind is non-existent and of course an inch is enough for the stupid law anyway) and it’s all I can smell while trying to eat my food. Smokers, you really have no idea how putrid that smell is to those of us who don’t smoke. Like really. I don’t really know what the point of bitching about it is though.
OMG; on my travels this summer to Europe people smoked EVERYWHERE yet there was no smoking permitted on the beaches! Fawk, this is where I enjoy a smoke!
However, it is due to this regulation that this particular country has the cleanest water in the WORLD!
Looking forward to going on another Nacation.
psssst..Hey, Koda….Europe is a continent, not a country. Just sayin’
it’s the bad smells that make good smells worth it.
you should be thanking them… your food smells WAY better now that you’ve had a sniff of ‘putrid’ smoke.
Um. Nice try zed.
When you’ve smelled one of the things that make you migrainy and thus vomity, food is the last thing you wanna smell.
Go ahead and smoke, but just don’t do it around me unless you want a punch in the face.
So, if I want to eat on the patio(which is still “the restaurant”, as per smoking by-laws etc harumph), I should have to breath your stinky smoke?
Fuck you once.
And because cars idle, you should get to smoke where ever and whenever you want?
Fuck you twice.
And once for free.
Fuck you.

“food is the last thing you wanna smell”
?
I doubt that.

eehh.. yeah, don’t smoke near me while I’m eating. I wish it was like weed: it’s basically ok, just don’t do it right in someone’s face or in public or you’ll eventually get a ticket. If people were more considerate we wouldn’t need silly rules. That’s why a lot of stuff works over in Europe and not here. The SET attitude that is prevalent in North American culture.
And how big of a carbon footprint does the manufacturing of synthetics make?
HOLY FUCK, all over the map on this one. Why didn’t you mention some more random things like television reception or the moon landing? Or bill cosby’s jello tree?
Classy, zZz. Classy.
Also: go fuck yourself with sebastian’s jar of jelly.
lol zZz just beat you at your own game PK
I miss drinking a beer and having a smoke on patios
i agree cranky, random ranting. blame the terrorists op^^
I love it when the smokers stand right beside the rope keeping them off the Patio’s & smoke.
I’m a non smoker & nothing can be more ridiculous than telling some smoker, who is outdoors, they can smoke here, but over there 6 inches away, they cannot !
the good news is the percentage of smokers in canada is slowly decreasing. When I entered the workforce 20 years I think it was around 22%. I think I’ve heard recent figures around 17%.
Oh, to be able to light a fucking gagger on a tripod in front of Smitty’s on a Sunday and give the old ladies motivation to collectively boogie up South Park.
“And how big of a carbon footprint does the manufacturing of synthetics make”
You might be right Bro Tim if you just butchered the animal and then threw the hide over your shoulders. However, the hide has to be processed.Cut, sprayed with chemicals to halt decay, packaged and shipped.
The animals have to be raised, fed and kept warm for the course of their lives on the fur farm.
Added together, it would be interesting to see what the footprint is fur vs. faux.
“lol zZz just beat you at your own game PK”
Nah, Tommy, zZz just confused me with his girlfriend, which was more insulting than the fat joke itself.

the hypocrisy is astounding, isn’t it !
Assassinating animals? That means all of KFC’s chicken is killed by Steven Seagal movies, Israelis with fake passports, a crossfire between Stallone and Banderas, or mercenaries employed by Z/Blackwater ops.
Free range tofu best be avoidin’ the grassy knoll…

There are ways to cure hides without chemicals…well without the type you were talking about Troondon4.

I really thought most everyone knew this !
We were talking about commercial fur farms More and whether or not real fur has less of a carbon footprint than faux fur.
No, I haven’t personally been involved in tanning hides or fur so I don’t have first-hand knowledge of the processes involved. I can’t imagine that many people have. The link you have there seems to be geared towards the hobbyist but large-scale industrial fur farms do use some chemical processing.
Faux fur does have a significant environment impact as petroleum-based chemical polymers are used in their manufacturing. So fur, real or otherwise seems to be a lose-lose situation for those of us both sensitive to the welfare of animals and the environment for the time-being. There is progress in the use of cotton to make faux fur but it hasn’t made inroads against the acrylic based furs.
As a fellow non-smoker/former smoker I agree completely. Europe (and Montreal for that matter) have it right. Banning smoking indoors is fine and is the way forward, but what’s the big deal with smoking outdoors on a patio? Maybe we should ban BBQs on patios too.
Thank you to all those slaughter houses and butchers who created those amazing sirloin steaks that were on the BBQ on the weekend 🙂
What some retarded people here may not be aware of is that you aren’t allowed to smoke on the deck. But all you have to do is walk OFF the deck, not be TOUCHING the deck and you can smoke. Which means that in any event, people in the vicinity are getting secondhand smoke anyway.
it’s a pretend law put in place to mildly inconvenience smokers and majorly pacify smoking nazis and otherwise do nothing.
I find the whole thing funny.
