So, if I hire a company to carry a fridge up to my third-floor apartment and they only make it to the second floor because “It’s so heavy and there are too many stairs and we’re just tiny people,”  do I pay them and say “Well, you tried but since the job is hard you can go home with the job not done.” NO, I say, “I don’t care what you have to do, more hands, a crane, whatever, DO YOUR JOB.” SOOOO…Did the city put out contracts to DRIVE DOWN SIDEWALKS IN LITTLE FRONT END LOADERS, or did they hire companies to CLEAR THE SIDEWALKS? So the little tractor didn’t work, so what? Quit? NO, you hire more hands and give them ice chippers and you do the job you were contracted to do. In business some times you make easy money and some times you have to cut your profit in order to finish the job. —Amalgamation Hater

  1. Have you ever heard the sound
Of your head hit the ground
    And you’re afraid to say
    And it won’t go away

that’s the sound of your brain crack-a-lacking

C’mon H^lif^x. We’ve all been having a nice whinge, whine and sook about the ice, but let’s turn it into a positive. Ottawa makes a big thing of “ohhh, lets go skate on the RideauBleedinCanal.” Well, we’ve got that in three dimensions. How hardcore is that?
So lets get to it H^lif^x.
If life deals you lemons; make lemonade
Of course, if life neglected to deal you water and sugar you’ve got nothing but a fistful of anti-scorbutic pucker pulp, but that’s beside the point.

  3. Tar and feather the plow driver decision makers?!!!…. who do I even go to for this….Now i’m sad and confused..

  4. Ahhhh but OB, what you don’t realize Is that the fridge moving company set a NEW fridge moving standard. They are no longer required to bring your fridge up three flights of stairs. Now its only 2. Similar to the city, they have set a whole new standard with respect to clearing sidewalks. That new standard is simply driving their little plows down the sidewalk versus the old standard whereby the homeowner had to clear the sidewalk to bare pavement and within 24 hours… stupud c***s!

  5. It used to be the homeowner had to clear the sidewalk down to bare pavement within 24 hours. Since the city has taken over, the new standard is to simply drive the little plow down the sidewalk. Now, as a side-note… everytime I see one of those little plows they are driving down the street not plowing a god damn thing while we struggle to maintain our balance on the fucking ice.

Thank you Ms. Moser. Such a wise woman! In fact, we need to clone her! The original can be the mayor and the rest can be counselors.

  6. Time for skates everybody, these streets are deplorable for any standard. Then we have sidewalks that have better ice covering than most rinks.

  7. You should see my street…
there isn’t even a sidewalk TO PLOW.
Just mounds of snow everywhere and solid ice near the curbs where we’re supposed to walk and not slip and get our heads crushed by the idiot drivers.

  8. what did people do before the city decided to take over the job of sidewalk clearing?

did everyone toss their shovels in the harbour? yes, they should be doing a better job since they voluntarily took it, no one forced them to. but still, if you are a resident and you saw no sign of a little plow person, wouldn’t you go out and do it yourself?

  9. Flame throwers to melt the ice. They’re cheaper than those little plows and I bet you would get tons of volunteers to use them. Don’t thank me, I’m just all about solutions.
