Nice letter, mom. At first I thought I’d ask you why she just doesn’t get a job like most everyone else, but then you say she ‘chose’ this life. Fair enough. Could somebody please mention to her the next time they see her that “street person” probably won’t go over to well with the admitting office at Dal?

The fact that her mom is cool with her daughter being a bum— lets not get all PC here, a squeegie kid is still a bum— makes me wonder where the real problem lies

Cranky, ya i know man i’ve been completely opposing to this whole squeegee kid thing or what they like to be referred to as homeless. They’re lazy parasites is what they are.
I like that the squeegie girl’s mother is supportive. Everyone needs a safe supportive environment to turn to and it’s great that she has aspiritions of attending university. However, humans are very much egocentric, visually stimulated people and by assimilating to the squeegie culture she should have been prepared to be judged and viewed with the stigmas put on ‘homeless’ or ‘vagrant’ youth bumming for change. Frankly, it makes me mad that I go to school full time and work very hard for my money just to see others sitting on sidewalks with hands out. I’ll leave all of my bottles out for people to pick up to recycle, because it keeps the plastics and glass out of landfills and people actually have to find and cart them around. Kudos. To the beggar’s…go get a job.
i think she just wanted to give the impression she didn’t fail so pathetically as a mother . however, if that was really her daughter who stopped the 3 cowardly girls at the scene of bashing the elderly woman, we can at least give credit to the squeegee kid for being a caring human being, bum or not. her mother ? well, i’ll skip on being harsh. i think she’s already suffering enough guilt for copping out on motherhood.
