I personally don’t believe coming here at 62 years of age, working for 3 years & getting a full pension is the right thing to do to Canadian taxpayers…& its a slap in the face for all the people who have worked in this country, their whole lives, followed the rules & see no benefit from that sacrifice…

I might get flamed up the ass for this, but I think old age pension, if it isn’t already, should be restricted to canadian citizens only.
That would mean the immigrant couldn’t come in here at 62 and receive pensions at 65 because it takes at least 5 years to qualify for citizenship.
And if immigrants who come here many years ago want old age pension they must become a citizen in order to receive the benefits.
Old age pension isn’t something you “work for”…people who have been in Canada their whole lives and didn’t work a day in said life still qualify for old age pension…old age pension isn’t like CPP — you don’t have to pay into it to collect it.
Don’t worry about the Old Age pension, PK, we’ll never see it. I’m willing to bet it’ll be long gone before we see our 50s.
This is yet another inaccurate, hate-fueled bitch. The proposed plan would mean that immigrant seniors who have lived in the country for three years would only qualify for partial benefits of $38.77 a month, which is nowhere near the maximum old age pension of $516.96 a month. Giving seniors a whopping $40 a month to help them live doesn’t seem like much to get worked up about.
Even if that 62 year old did immigrate and have their hand out, how often do immigrants move here alone? Don’t they often bring their families? I’m not saying that working 3 or even 5 years is enough nor to I agree with the concept. But, if they’re bringing a couple kids who are coming to our country to work and pay taxes…. Just saying… 🙂
